Our love affair with fine food prepared in the coal fired oven began over 20 years ago on a visit to the beautiful city of Portofino, Italy. It was there that our family learned the simple, time-tested recipes of the freshest ingredients fired in a coal oven. It was the inspiration for many wonderful recipes to follow and now it is the inspiration for
Portofino Coal Fired Pizza.
Homemade flatbread & coal-fired pies star at this sleek spot with stone walls & happy hours.

Stopped by Portofino Pizza in Homestead, FL ecently and left feeling underwhelmed. When we walked in, there was a sign asking guests to wait to be seated, but no one was at the host stand for quite a while. After some time, we were eventually seated and told that “one of us will be serving you,” but unfortunately no one came by for a while after that.
The overall atmosphere felt disjointed. The pizza maker was on a Bluetooth call while preparing food, the owner appeared to be working on a laptop, and one of the servers was eating during a break in the dining area.
It was also surprisingly quiet for 7pm on a weeknight, which didn’t help the overall energy of the place. The food itself was fine — it satisfied the craving but didn’t stand out.

Honest Review: the pizza it’s not the most visually appealing pie out there, however, don’t let looks fool you, because the flavor makes up for it.
I ordered the Bianche, and let me just say — this is an absolute must-try. I added Alfredo sauce, which took the flavor to the next level, giving it a rich, creamy finish that paired perfectly with the coal-fired crust. If you want to elevate it even more, toss in some onions — As for drinks, skip the sangria — it’s not their strong suit. But their spicy mango margarita? Total winner. We liked it so much we ended up ordering three. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming. It wasn’t crowded when we went, which made for a relaxed dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, rounding out a solid visit.
Final verdict: While the presentation may not impress, the food and overall vibe definitely will. Go for the Bianche, stay for the margaritas.

Our server was Oscar who was pretty awesome!! It was my first time here so he was very helpful with guiding me through some good recommendations on the menu. Food was fresh and very delicious. I had the ricotta calzone. And it was perfect. Thanks to Oscar’s great service, I definitely will be coming back.

Omar was great! Food is always delicious and fresh. Power went out due to bad weather and he lit candles for us while we ate. They also offered us free dessert which was a plus. Highly recommend.

Portofino is our go-to for pizza when we are in town for races, several times a year—ordered wings, Caesar salad, mac & cheese, and meatballs. All the food was great. Had to wait a few for them to make some fresh meatballs. They were WELL worth the wait. The wings were good, and my son liked the mac & cheese. The service was fair, but it could definitely use some improvement.

Our server was very nice. But the service itself (waiting to be attended, waiting for the food to arrive and food to go/ pizza) took them forever. We arrived around 830pm. We left around 10. We spent more time waiting for the food when we actually saw people who arrived after us, getting their foods first. Food was not really good. Pizza was great.

My family and I had the pleasure of dining at Portofino, and the experience was made exceptional thanks to Natalie. From the moment we arrived, she greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. Natalie was incredibly attentive, ensuring that every detail was taken care of throughout our meal.
She gave great recommendations and checked on us regularly without ever being intrusive. Her friendly attitude and genuine care turned a simple dinner into a memorable experience for all of us.
The food was delicious—perfectly cooked pizza with fresh ingredients—but it was Natalie’s outstanding service that truly stood out. If you visit Portofino ask for Natalie, she’ll make your experience unforgettable.
Thanks Natalie for your great attention and superb hospitality. Also to the rest of the staff. Keep it up!!!

They don’t like to serve people of color!!! Tonight my child and I went to eat here and waited for about 10 mins and no one came to seat us or even take our order. Then, I went to the bar and patiently waited for service. The bartender, looked me in my eye, said nothing and continued to help others. So, I thought maybe she was just busy. After waiting another 5 minutes, I decided to call the restaurant to see if I could at least get my order taken. The same bartender walked away from the bar to go get the cordless phone on the other side of the restaurant. Over the phone I asked her to please serve us. She then handed the phone to a waiter and basically refused to us, again! I walked out! And they were not even busy!

Omar was an excellent waiter – attentive, personable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Pizza is always on point and the watermelon caprioska and the Italian margarita are always solid choices for those looking for a nice adult drink 🙂

We visited for the first time during happy hour. The greeter welcomed us and offered an outdoor table, which we declined due to the cold. The greeter pointed out another employee on the phone, stating he would assist us. We waited nearly 20 minutes at the desk while the employee stayed on the call. When he finally ended it, both he and the greeter approached us. Unfortunately, the greeter repeated the same questions, disregarding our earlier communication, as if we hadn’t been there before. We had assumed they were preparing a table, but it became clear they weren’t. This breakdown in attentiveness left us feeling overlooked, and we ultimately decided to leave. Also, the music was very loud deteriorating the possibility to have a conversation.
We hope the team can improve guest communication and responsiveness.
