Ordered ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and beans. Nice place, clean, and the staff was very friendly. Let me say that taste is subjective, but preparation is not. The food was absolutely prepared well. Unfortunately, I did not like the taste of their food. I thought the brisket was a bit salty. The ribs were ok. Didn’t care for the sides. You should give it a try. I took 1 star away for their drink options. Bottle drinks fine, but no fresh tea, ice, or water? (You can buy bottled water)

Hit Pit Commander Barbecue today with some friends. The Central Texas Style BBQ is definitely worth the drive from Mansfield. Had Sliced Moist Brisket, Pork Ribs, Turkey, Bacon Brisket, Cheddar Jalapeno Sausage and a Texas Twinkie. Everything was on point, flavors were Amazing.

If you understand and love true central TX BBQ you need to get to this place before Texas Monthly Ranks them. No 3+hr waits for bbq!!! I travel all over the state tasting some of the finest Q there is, and I’ll put this right up there with any of the best. I got there late and they were almost out of Brisket, I’m a point (fatty) guy but the flat(lean) was excellent, and the Bark was amazing. Sausage was also great. I know the Q is the star of the show but the sides here are also amazing, quaso mac and cheese, but the elotes with brisket holy cow! Of the 3 desserts the ice box and banana cream pie were sold out so I’ll have to come back, but the pecan pie was excellent.

We found the Pit Commander Central Texas barbecue to be well worth the 37 minute drive from plano.

This barbecue is fire! I tried the burnt end pizza at the Star Fair of Texas. It was bomb.

Went there the people were nice and the restaurant was fine but honestly the food was awful. Nothing about it was good and for the price they ask I expect incredible. Brisket dry. Sausage mushy. Ribs bland. Mac and cheese and pinto beans way too much going on. Simplicity is key to success. They have Franklin or Terry Black’s pricing but not even dickeys or spring creek quality. I hope they get better.

I would give them six stars if Google would let me. This is a beautiful spot in the historic part of downtown Van Alstyne.

First off way over priced. Also, people that are saying this place is better than Hutchins are absolutely crazy, not even close! Food was mediocre at best. Honestly bucees has better bbq. Worst part was the sausage had the consistency of a vienna sausage, couldn’t even finish it. Just threw it away.

Y’all…. New place in Van Alstyne. Finally found a place that is better than my own backyard. Brisket and beef ribs were great. Twinkies, pork belly burnt ends, bacon brisket were amazing. Jalapeño Cheddar sausage was out of this world. Sides were incredible, especially the white queso smoked Mac and cheese. No lines. Only open Saturdays, 11am until sold out. Got here at 12:30 and they were already outta ribs. Will come back. Bravo!!

I came to Pit Commander to try out some bbq after noticing a delicious smell when I was driving through Van Alstyne last weekend. I stopped in and immediately i met Jon who was extremely helpful, very knowledgeable with barbecue and helped with my order.
