We come here quite often for lunch and dinner because they have fairly good and comfortable seating. They are usually busy especially during the weekends so it’s best to make reservation. The quality of food is somewhat hit and miss. When they are busy, the quality goes down. Tonight the food was only ok. We didn’t like how the lobsters were cooked. We preferred the ginger and green onions much better. We spent more than $450 tonight but once again, the quality was not the best. Service, on the other hand, was very good. She was very helpful taking time to give us suggestions on what to order. Overall, as long as they keep up the quality, this restaurant should meet your expectations.

We loved it! I had a feeling it would be good because it was full of Asians and I loved that!! Yes, you have to flag down staff. Big deal! I wasn’t a fan of the tenderloin in pepper sauce but my hubby loved it and I loved his general tso so we shared. Potstickers were to die for! Tried a new veggie and loved it

Absolutely wonderful place for dim sum! We especially love the Siu Mai, shrimp dumplings, pot stickers, and spring rolls (always perfectly crispy). Get there early on the weekends! Always a big crowd!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Phoenix but I remembered the food being very decent. We came to celebrate CNY. The service was okay, not the best. However, we got the sauces we needed for the different types of food we ordered. Our hot tea and water cups were always refilled. I’m not going to go through all of the dishes we ordered, but they were all good. Just an observation but I noticed that some of the Americans that gave the place 1 star, ordered the typical American dishes. Whereas the Asian reviewers ordered dishes that Americans won’t ever touch. In my pictures, you won’t see any orange chicken, chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, etc. That’s just a FYI, those ratings are not very accurate.
If you parked in either of two big parking lots, remember to get your ticket validated at the restaurant before you leave. It should say $2. If it doesn’t say that, then you did it wrong. Overall rating would be 3.5. If you order real Asian food, then you’ll have a decent experience despite the service. The American food.. well.. don’t expect much. You can get that at Panda Express.

Authentic, no frills Chinese food in China town, this is the spot to go if you want to order authentic Chinese dishes. They offer the dim sum menu 11am-3pm which has a ton of options and is 20% off if you pay with cash. Dim sum is a style of Cantonese cuisine consisting of small, bite-sized portions of food, traditionally served with tea We found that asking the people next to us to what they ordered was very helpful, since everyone eating there seemed to be Chinese and able to speak the language. Our server was very sweet but spoke little English. The menu is helpful since is has pictures of all the items they offer. My only complaint was the place was pretty hot inside- I was sticking to my upholstered chair- the decor in here is like a fancy banquet hall. That being said it was a 93 degree afternoon in chicago when we went to eat here. Overall- I was very pleased with the food, experience and feeling like I was at authentic local spot vs a chain Americanized restaurant. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for authentic. The shrimp rolls and shrimps/chicken pad Thai was excellent. Lots of dishes with shrimp.

Great food, friendly staff. Love that they have a weekday dim sum special if you pay by cash you get 20% off! All the dishes were great except the pan fried rice roll with the green onions and dried shrimp. Not sure why it had a slight bitter taste. The pan fried shrimp cakes were delicious. My 4 year old devoured the entire plate. My 9 year old loved the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. There were so many dim sum choices in Chinatown but I choose phoenix. The decor and all the older Asian aunties and uncles dining there I just knew it was authentic.

As someone who doesn’t like Chinese food this place was very good. It seems very authentic as most of the people there speak Chinese. You mark off what items you want and they bring all of them to you and you eat family style on a spiny thing in the middle. Some items weren’t the best but most were very good! Definitely check this place out if you want authentic Chinese food.

Phoenix Restaurant in Chinatown came recommended with a 4.2 rating and is a stop on the Chinatown food tour, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations—it felt more like a 2 star experience. The restaurant was noticeably dirty, with tattered and stained seat covers, which almost made us leave. We stayed for lunch and tried the hai gao, chicken and beef rice noodle dim sum, which were just average. The fried beef chow fun was better and had decent flavor. Service was inattentive and unfriendly. With so many great options in Chinatown, we’ll try somewhere else next time.

Phoenix is an old standby dim sum restaurant that I’ve been to quite a few times over the years. The dim sum is fresh from top quality ingredients, served hot to the table and always offers a huge endless variety to choose from. Service is excellent with roomy tables overlooking the Chicago skyline.
However, I was really disappointed as they did away with the traditional cart system that came around to the tables. They do give you a detailed pictured menu of all the dim sum and you order off that. The dim sum quality and taste are the same and the food is super hot when it arrives at your table. They do have a couple carts mingling around the dining room stacked with one particular dim but that’s about it.
No matter what you order, it’s all really tasty with accompanying hoisin, soy, plum sauces and chili garlic oil. Prices and service are comparable to other dim sum places but Phoenix is still the best dim sum in Chinatown!
Personal Tip: Order most of your dim sum at one time with second round afterward. They get a little confused as they use the 1 single paper ticket order and then add on to that for 2nd & 3rd rounds.

This venue is a wonderful choice for a wedding reception, especially if you love great Chinese food! The catering is top-notch.
However, be aware that the parking situation is a real challenge; the lack of available spaces is definitely the biggest downside to consider when planning your event.
