We were seated right next to the water where the gondola ride is in the atmosphere was incredible. The food and service were excellent as well.
We would recommend this spot to anybody looking for a good quality, Mexican food and it is family friendly.
The overall experience was amazing – only to be outdone by the food! Best most innovative Mexican food we had.
The pina colada is actually served in a coconut (was slightly miffed that they didn’t offer to give me the flesh after I was done). Great for sopping while I savored the very innovative serving of massa quesadilla.
The fajita was sizzling but not overpowering – it was good to see some fresh veggies other than the regular bell peppers and onions.
Best of all, the ambience. Watch the gondolas float by while you enjoy the leisure meal. Quite possibly a better way to enjoy the gondola experience than actually riding one.
At first glance, it may seem improbable to find genuinely good Mexican cuisine tucked beside the Venetian’s faux-romantic canal. Yet from our very first visit, La Canonita proved us wrong, and promptly hooked us. The menu draws inspiration from the cuisine of the Yucatán Peninsula, and our perennial favorite is their take on cochinita pibil, known here as Santa Rosa Barbacoa. Guajillo-chile-rubbed pork arrives wrapped in a banana leaf, accompanied by chipotle BBQ sauce, cilantro rice, black beans, and corn tortillas. It’s deeply flavorful, comforting, and so satisfying that our biggest complaint is how rarely we order anything else.
Determined to broaden our horizons, we recently arrived early enough to explore the brunch menu, and were glad we did.
We began by sharing the Braised Short Rib Chilaquiles, a generous composition of corn tortilla chips layered with tender short ribs, asadero cheese, eggs over easy, salsa roja, crema, and pico de gallo. The short ribs were plentiful and well-distributed, the chips retained just enough crunch, and the flavors came together harmoniously. While I personally would have welcomed a bit more heat from the salsa, it’s understandable that the kitchen aims for broader appeal.
Next came a classic Huevos Rancheros, featuring two eggs over easy, Monterey Jack, corn quesadillas, potatoes, black beans, and ranchero sauce. Here, the sauce and potatoes stole the show, rich, well-seasoned, and grounding the dish. Combined with the eggs and accompaniments, the plate offered a pleasing variety of textures and flavors in every bite.
Though it was too early for cocktails on this visit, past experiences with their margaritas and Mexican beers have been consistently excellent.
With its picturesque canal-side setting and reliably strong execution, Canonita remains a standout on the Strip. Whether for brunch or dinner, it’s an ideal choice for a relaxed, romantic meal, and a reminder that good food can still surprise you, even in the most unlikely of places. Keep it firmly in mind the next time you’re craving a memorable Mexican meal in Las Vegas on the Strip.

Diane had the salmon on Quinoa that had a nice crispy edge but not overdone. Very good flavoring.
I had the queso fundido with chorizo. It’s a favorite dish of mine and this one hit the spot.
It also didn’t hurt that we sat beside the canal and enjoyed the gondoliers singing Italian songs.
Highly recommended two-thumbs up
Service: 10/10 She continously checked on us and provided great service.
Atmosphere: they kindly sat us by the water, it was a great experience!
Dining at Canonita was an absolute delight from start to finish. Nestled right along the shimmering waters of the Grand Canal, the restaurant offers a front-row seat to the gondolas gliding by—an ambience that’s both romantic and vibrant, making it one of the most scenic spots in Las Vegas.
The food? Pure Mexican soul. The fajitas were sizzling with authentic flavor, perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection. Their guacamole was a standout—fresh, creamy, and bursting with zest. The cilantro rice and beans were comforting and aromatic, pairing beautifully with the freshly made tortillas that wrapped the tacos like a warm hug. Every bite felt like a celebration of traditional Mexican cuisine.
Service was top-notch: attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff made sure everything was just right, adding to the overall warm and festive atmosphere.
Highly recommend Canonita for your Mexican food cravings—you will not regret going to this restaurant. It’s a feast for the senses and a must-visit when you’re in Vegas.
