In my red curry, I had 50-70+ seeds (the ones you see in pepper flakes shakers at pizza places). They kept coming up in my mouth and I removed some but couldn’t remove all.
Authentic Thai curry should be creamy and free from these seeds. Should use curry paste and/or powders. NO SEEDS !!!!! I asked kindly, “for next time I return, can I please have no seeds” she said “Not possible. It’s already made”.
Very disappointing when we don’t have time to make it at home and want to go out … even the other Thai place in pinecrest used these seeds! What is wrong with these places!!!
I love their coconut soup and the crazy noodles. I’ll give them another chance …. Or ask for zero spice and BRING MY OWN curry powder / cayenne pepper powder !!!!!!!
The staff meanwhile are all super friendly and helpful, the space is warm and welcoming, and while there’s usually a crowd during peak hours, the table turnaround time is decently quick so wait times are reasonable.
Nota bene for extreme ️chili lovers ️ – while the menu has spice options from 0 (no spice) to 5 (Thai hot), the kitchen will go even hotter! You can ask for a heat level up to 100! I found 15 to be pleasurably painful, while 20 was about the limit above which I would have needed a few pints of coconut ice cream. You have been warned.
Any food I have had has been excellent. It has been consistent throughout many dinners.
Having grown up in the hospitality industry, I understand the challenges of restaurant service. I had often noticed that the staff rarely recognized regulars or offered a warm personal interaction, but I never took that as a negative. I loved the food and always looked forward to returning.
Unfortunately, my most recent visit changed everything. I brought three of my staff members, who are not of Caucasian descent, and from the moment we sat down, the experience was noticeably different. We were ignored for nearly 15 minutes..after the host sat us. no offer of drinks other than the water that sits on the table by default. When one of my staff asked a question about the menu, the response was condescending, as if the question were unwelcome. Basically if we didn’t ask (such as drink) we weren’t offered.
When it came time to pay, the server’s tone was curt. Asking how and who was paying. After taking my card, they disappeared for about 20 minutes..the restaurant was not busy. When the check was finally returned, it was TOSSED onto the table between TWO OF MY MALE staff, without a word..no thank you, no acknowledgment and no warning of the added 20% tip.
When I looked over the bill, I noticed a 20% gratuity had been added automatically. Which is a good tip when average is 18%. This has never happened before, even with larger parties. When I politely asked about it at the front, I was spoken down to and told, “It’s stated in the menu and we can add gratuity to any party we want: one, two, three, however many.” I explained that I had several past receipts on me without added gratuity for even larger groups.
At that point, I said, “So because I’m not with my white friends, you chose to be rude, give the bare minimum of service, and then add a high tip?” I reminded them that if they don’t want to be judged by appearances, they shouldn’t judge others that way.
I wasn’t planning to write this, but my sister encouraged me saying others deserve to know what they may walk into. Along with a great deal of older staff go there and I’m sure don’t notice or review their bill.
I share this with sadness not spite.
And if you’re getting dessert you need to try the mango mousse cake! Yum!
