Stopped into Penny Black with a friend during a work trip and instantly loved the vibe. It was freezing, windy, and right on the water so we both ordered the hot rum cider, which was exactly what we needed. Cozy, warming, and delicious. Two ciders ran us about $20, which felt reasonable for the setting and quality.

We stopped in twice because we really wanted to try the bacon-wrapped goat cheese jalapeño poppers. The first time we weren’t hungry enough, so we made a point to come back later and I’m glad we did. They were excellent. Not a huge portion, but it’s an appetizer and felt appropriate. They were rich and well balanced, definitely a fork-and-knife situation, and worth the ~$14.

The atmosphere is a big part of the appeal here. Tons of dark wood, historic character, and that old-Baltimore charm that makes you feel like the place has stories. It’s warm and inviting.

Perfect stop for drinks and a snack, especially on a cold day by the water. I’d absolutely go back if only for another hot rum cider and those poppers again.

The interior is comfortable and well appointed. Great view of the inner harbor. The owner greeted us on entry. I had the beef shank and polenta special and it was fantastic. The wife’s chicken pot pie was delicious too. Visited again and tried the bratwurst plate. It was great. Local made brats and a dijon mustard were great and the sauerkraut went great with the mashed taters.

I usually love this place, great food and drinks. I love supporting local.
BUT my spouse and I ordered two ‘Fancy Burgers’ and two beers. When we received the receipt, we noticed the Fancy Burgers were charged at $21 each, while the printed menu we ordered from lists them at $18. We were told afterward that the menu price had changed but hadn’t been updated yet. The waitress could not give us a refund of the difference or adjust the price because the owner wasn’t there.

The receipt total did add up correctly based on the higher price, but we weren’t informed of the increase before ordering, which was a bit confusing at the time.

We understand menu changes and price increases 100%, but this was straight up false advertising.

I walked over from my stay at William Fell, I checked their menu out and saw dried oysters! It’s a little gloomy as well so opted for the tomato soup and grilled cheese! The grilled cheese was so crispy and the soup was yummy as well. This is a great spot to grab lunch and so happy I stopped in.

The pasta primavera I was served a couple of nights ago was teaming with zesty deep rich flavor, and topped with expertly grilled zucchini. I absolutely savoured every bite. It was an extraordinarily exceptional dining experience. My husband had the trout and was also raving. We agreed that Cef Cox is a keeper and a treasure in the kitchen.
About twenty friends were there to celebrate with a special person. The entire staff were attentive, efficient, kind and pleasant. All the details, from appetizers to dessert, were perfect, and Melissa, the owner, spent time making sure everything went as planned and more, when the air chilled outside and the celebration moved indoors. We were effortlessly acommodated.
I see more visits there in my future. Thanks for a great night!

Lived in the neighborhood for over a year and just had the chance to stop in for lunch. Place was completely empty which normally is not a good sign but the experience was great. Friendly service, good food, and nice atmosphere. Also, for the location prices are very reasonable. Definitely recommend stopping in for a bit and drink.

What a fantastic restaurant! The proprietors and staff are welcoming and knowlegable. The menu was incredible. I had a hard time deciding what to eat! The food was delicious and made with care. The atmosphere was warm and cozy with a good view. I’m happy that I found a new favorite in Fells Point.

A fantastic late night hang out spot with amazing food and tasty drinks. The wings are nice and crunchy with great sauces. Fries are A+, a nice thick cut. The only thing our table didn’t like was the citrus roasted carrots. It had too much of a bite, wish it was softer. The citrus is OK.

Service was fine, could’ve been better. We did have to clean our own table up.

The food was super disappointing. The wings were bland… It tasted like they just boiled or microwaved the chicken and then put a little smoked flavor and a really bland BBQ sauce.
The oyster po-boy was in the bottom 5% of ones I’ve tried and quite small. The fries were good though and it’s a pretty pub… Just needs help on those recipes…
