The service and speed were great in this breakfast/lunch restaurant. However, the food just wasn’t good (even though it’s affordable and big on portion size).

With all the rave reviews, figured it would be safe. Even a neighbor said it was good. We had a group of five, all with years of food service experience.

This is a disappointing review to have to leave because we really wanted to enjoy this place, but we have to be honest. It’s a Saturday, so the place was busy, which is to be expected. My husband and I reasonably waited 35 min for a table. But when it was time for us to be seated, the host slipped the menus onto the table and continued walking without saying a word. I nearly continued to follow her in a circle back to the front because it wasn’t clear that was supposed to be our table. But we sat down and were able to order fairly promptly. I got a cup of coffee, and my husband and I asked to share a Florentine Benedict and a cup of oatmeal. Very small order. 40 minutes ticked by and not a single person checked on us. My coffee emptied and no one offered to refill it. We decided to flag down our waitress to suggest perhaps we had been forgotten because we had watched multiple tables that were seated after us be served, eat, and leave while we waited. The waitress seemed completely unsuprised, offered no apology and no coffee refill, but agreed to go check on our food. She came back and informed us that our ticket was “fourth in line”. We asked her how long that would take and she said she didn’t know but that the kitchen was very busy. We then had to ask to get the order to go because we only had a small window of time to be out. (We are caregivers for my mom in her advanced stages of dementia and our kind neighbor had offered to sit with her this morning to give us a chance to get out together. But it was approaching the lunch hour, and we needed to get back home and attend my mom.) Just wish we hadn’t chosen this restaurant for that time away, which is really rare for us these days. Within 6 minutes, our single entree order was finally ready to go. Our waitress offered only excuses for the busy kitchen and handed us the check. My husband asked to speak to the manager who continued to give excuses for the busy kitchen and told him we shouldn’t have come on a Saturday because that’s their busiest day (as if we get a choice in when we get to leave the house). We can understand a busy kitchen, but the fact that tables were continuing to be served that were seated well after us, and we only ordered a single entree, we knew it was a mistake. But they wouldn’t admit to that. The manager gave us $5 off the order, which came to $20 after tip. She also gave us two more $5 vouchers to use any time… better not be on a Saturday, though! I’m just grateful we didn’t try to bring my mom with us, the chaos would not have been worth it. We were super hangry when we left with our to-go order. Got home to eat it, and the poached eggs are stiff and overcooked. Pancakes cold. Just not worth the $20 we spent for the hour and a half plus we wasted for this miserable experience. Abig part of me wonders if they wanted us to get frustrated and just leave since we had such a small order not worth their time and energy for such a small tip. Anyway, that really sucked. I hope our day gets better.

I’m gonna be honest here, I was super excited to try this place out because it was recommended to me by a lot of people. The service was super quick and they were friendly. The food though, that is a different story entirely.

Always a treat to come to Penny Ann’s cafe. The staff is upbeat, and the pancakes are the best I’ve ever had (besides a diner in Indiana, and somewhere in Costa Rica). Not sure the secret, but they are perfect and not your run of the mill pancake.

Service and atmosphere were great. Food was good but not excellent. For as much hype as there was around their pancakes I was really expecting them to melt in my mouth but instead they were heavy and not super flavorful. I ended up drenching them in syrup. Bacon, eggs and potatoes were fantastic. I wish I would have tried the French toast.

Penny Ann’s cafe is a cute place with fun food, the decor is lovely, and there were plenty of people there so I know I’m not alone in liking it there. The food reminds me of Black Bear Dinner, and that is really a compliment, I would probably recommend going here if you have some time to spare and are hungry.

Amazing food. I got the stuffed French toast (pictured) and my husband got the Benedict omelette. They also had excellent customer service. The waitress who waited on us was very friendly and attentive and the food came out in a timely manner. We brought our newborn and they made sure that he got a car seat sling and was comfortable as well. We will definitely be back!
