This place has a 90s, old school Chinese restaurant feel that I really like. Yangjangpi and jjajangmyeon were our favorites of the four we ordered. We were especially satisfied with jjajangmyeon because even in Korea it’s difficult to find good one these days. Many restaurants are skipping steps and most times it taste too sweet, flavorless, or watery. One we ate today at Peking Mandarin was definitely above average.

This place serves authentic Chinese-Korean cuisine that has been developed in Chinese immigrants in South Korea such as Black Noodle (짜장면) and Jjampong (짬뽕) as well as other fancier options. To my knowledge this is the only place in Chicago that serves this types of food.

This place is great, but not all menu options hit it out of the park. The Mongolian Beef is why we order from here. The sweet and sour pork ( ask for it Korean style with sauce on the side), and the sweet and spicy wings are their best dishes. The restaurant leans toward dive . The seats are duct taped and everything is sticky so order to go, but remember to put plenty of time on your meter cause the line is usually long.

It’s been over a decade since I last ate at Peking Mandarin…crazy to see the same workers! So glad that it survived Covid. The food is still on point. We ordered the traditional Korean-Chinese items. Pro tip: get the sauce on side for deep fried pork so it stays crispy. For the spicy seafood soup get it extra spicy. It’s still manageable but much more flavourful. Already thinking of when I will go again.

We came to Chicago to spend the weekend from MN. One thing I had to eat before leaving was jjajangmyeon and Jjambbong. So happy we found this restaurant. Owner was so kind and very tentative and food was DELICIOUS! We’ll definitely be back.

Wow the jjajangmyun really hit the spot. The sweet and sour pork was alright but I maybe wouldn’t order it again. Nice vibes in the restaurant, took me straight back to my childhood.

Best Korean-Chinese restaurant I’ve been to in a while. Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) & sweet and spicy shrimp (깜풍새우) are my top recommendations!
