I ordered Pei Wei for delivery and the chicken in my dish was raw! I called the store and their response was extremely underwhelming. After asking for a manager I heard a lot of giggling in the background while I was waiting for someone to come to the phone. I’m not even sure the manager apologized or stated they would ensure it didn’t happen again until I commented that was why I was calling. To make matters worse because I ordered through a 3rd party app, I didn’t even get a full refund.

The Chicken Fried rice didn’t have a familiar smell. It smelled like dirty dishwater. The S & S chicken was extremely salty, some pieces were hard and the rice was hard. The Chicken Lo Mein noodles were sweet but the chicken was good. Perhaps I shouldn’t have selected these items for my first visit because I wasted $45. I don’t mind paying that for good quality food but this wasn’t worth $5. This restaurant appeared to always have a crowd years ago when I would drive by. Not so much now and I’m sure there is a reason. There was absolutely nothing about these items that I would recommend because I don’t know if they tasted as they are branded to be. No special spice blends or anything. I’m a good cook and I experiment with a lot of cuisines. This is not a good cuisine. I suggest you do some taste tests to examine the quality of your items. UGH!

I really wanted to like this place because I was told that the Crab Rangoon was not loaded with sugar like most places do nowadays but I was not impressed. The Crab Rangoon was dry. Served with sweet sauce on the side. Yuck. I ordered the Fire Cracker chicken with “upgraded” fried rice. The chicken was decent but my fried rice was ruined with tons of firecracker sauce dumped all over it. If it wasn’t for texture I wouldn’t tell the difference between eating the firecracker Chicken or the fried rice. Tasted exactly the same. If you like wet sweet fried rice then this is your place. I was able to try my ladies fried rice that wasn’t completely drenched in sauce and it had good taste.

What a great place. Pei Wei had a delicious and flexible menu and this location had great food with a friendly staff who actually seemed to enjoy the customers and working with their coworkers. Would recommend the tofu here.

In the past I have strictly gotten Pei Wei for takeout. Usually through grubhub. Today, May 2nd, I decided to dine in. I must say how relieving it was to have such a casual atmosphere. You order at the counter. It’s like fast food but East Asian. After you order, you get a number sign that lets the food runners know who gets which order. It’s so low key, and I love it. Typically restaurants with any Asian food are sit down restaurants with servers working for tips. It’s nice to have a more casual environment with good food, just without the sit down aspect. I love the food. This visit, I got their spicy drunken noodles with tofu along with a four count of spring rolls.

I frequently dine out at places like Pei Wei but Pei Wei has become my new favorite. That is due in no small part to Jacinta, one of the employees. They were having a bit of a mid afternoon rush and she was acting as the cashier, server, bus person and just about everything else associated with front of house in a restaurant. She really hustled and took care of everyone efficiently and with a smile. Honestly if I wasn’t retired and was still in business I would try to steal her away. I’ve eaten at Pei Wei for lunch the last three days and I don’t see that trend stopping anytime soon.

My loyalty to Pei Wei has spanned over a decade, and it continues to hold the crown as my favorite fast casual Pan-Asian destination. This week’s visit was no exception. I indulged in one of my tried-and-true favorites, the Grilled Bourbon Chicken, complemented by some delectable Crab Rangoon. As always, the flavors were spot-on and satisfying. Pei Wei remains a stalwart in consistently delivering good, hearty Pan-Asian fare.

For our first visit to Pei Wei, we decided to try a mix of their offerings, including wings, Mongolian steak, and Kung Pao chicken. Unfortunately, the experience was less than memorable, leaving us unlikely to return.

Ambiance

The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived, which allowed us to get a good look at the space. While the quiet atmosphere was a plus for a relaxed meal, the overall cleanliness left something to be desired. The table we chose wasn’t clean, and we had to wipe it down ourselves. A tidier dining area would have made a much better first impression.

The Food

We had high hopes for the menu, but the flavors didn’t quite hit the mark.
• Mongolian Steak: This dish was the biggest letdown. The steak was overly salty, overpowering any other flavors that might have been there. It was hard to enjoy, and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
• Spicy BBQ Steak: This dish was decent but nothing special. It didn’t stand out compared to similar dishes I’ve had elsewhere, and the flavors were somewhat muted.
• Wings: The wings were okay but didn’t leave a lasting impression. They were decent as a starter but lacked the bold flavors I was hoping for.

Final Thoughts

While the food was passable, it didn’t wow us. Considering the combination of a less-than-clean dining space and underwhelming flavors, I feel there are plenty of other restaurants with similar menus that deliver better taste and experience. Unfortunately, Pei Wei fell short of expectations, and I’m not eager to return.

This restaurant has too many roaches. Eat at your own risk! The Creve Coeur Department of Health should have been closed down for not closing down the Pei Wei restaurant. These are a few of the many roaches in Pei Wei’s kitchen. The managers are actually using home-used Raid aerosol spray during business hours. Management is so greedy for money – they refuse to close down and have this restaurant properly and safely sprayed for roaches.

I’m responding again to the management of Pei Wei, who answered 4 days ago. As of this date, 9/1/ 25 roaches are still in the Pei Wei restaurant. These people are liars. If the inspection on 8/26 is 98, the customers should have the name of the inspector who gave this roach-infested place a score of 98. The pictures have been provided by actual employees who are so tired of serving food with roaches to customers. These managers are disgusting for lying to customers. New managers need to be hired who are clean and care about customers’ safety.
