Pulled up and the parking lot was so packed I just knew it would be a wait but I was mistaken. Was seated quickly. It was my birthday so I asked the waitress to recommend me a mixed drink. The Blue Mesa was her recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the California burrito and it was deliciously filling. The bean dip they give tableside is also delicious

Tucked into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, this Mexican restaurant is an absolute gem and a delicious surprise in a mostly Southern town full of bland food made for old people. This food however is bold, vibrant, and packed with authentic flavor, from perfectly seasoned meats to fresh, zesty salsas at the variety packed salsa bar. Every dish comes out hot, beautifully prepared, and consistently excellent, proving the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing.
What really elevates the experience, though, is the service. From the moment you walk in, the hostesses are warm and welcoming, the servers are attentive and friendly without hovering, and the kitchen staff works like a well oiled machine. Orders come out quickly, even during busy times, without sacrificing quality. It’s the kind of place where you feel genuinely taken care of. Great food, great people, and a restaurant that’s clearly proud of what it serves. A must visit spot in the mountains.

Had an amazing meal at Papas and Bears! We tried the Pollo Loco and shrimp enchiladas — both were packed with flavor. Quantity and quality were 10/10. Great portions, fresh ingredients, and bold taste. Definitely coming back for more!

Great food. Large sevings. Fast service. Attentive wait staff. So much food you will be taking half of it home for tomorrow. Sizzling enchiladas were excellent. My wife had taco salad with grilled chicken breast that was very delicious. It is 2X the size you get at other places. Our food was on our table in less than 5 minutes even though they had a full house. Strongly recommend you give them a try.

Best guacamole I’ve had in a long time! The table side guacamole is a must! Steak in the taco salad was great as well. Good flavor and not dry. Customer service was excellent. Even got the football game on since no one was watching tennis. I travel for work and go to local places as much as possible. This is one of the better places for sure.

It may be different for locals, but I felt like an “outsider” the entire time I was in there. I felt very awkward and it seemed like I was not welcome. The server seemed bothered that she had to come to my table and even take my order. The food was decent, but definitely not anything to brag about. I’ve seen several of these restaurants around while in the area working, but I will not even give any others a try after this experience. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants that are much better!

Great food. I’ve never had a bad meal or bad service at this Papa’s and Beer. Their margaritas are great! They are not loaded with sugary mix, it’s a nice balance that you feel you are getting a great value. Nice portions for meals and very attentive service.

We used to love coming here. We love Mexican food! No kind greetings anymore. The food here is not as good as it was. We got Nachos and so much was burned. Our server was too busy to come back and then we just didn’t care. We left 90% on the plate. There are so many Mexican restaurants in Haywood county. This will give us a chance to check others out. It was clean. Bathrooms clean.

Worse dining experience that I’ve had in WNC. The fish tacos were soggy, the pico de gallo was flavorless and bland except for the sour taste from it being old. I had one bite and stopped eating for fear of food poisoning. The rice and beans had zero flavor. The server NEVER asked how anything was, and (noticing that I hadn’t eaten any of it) simply asked if I was done and cleared the plate. I wouldn’t have written this review if I had been able to express my disappointment in person, but no one asked or seemed to care.
