Selecting our quarry proved an exercise in epicurean democracy. We opted for the Gourmet Vegetarian—a medley of artichokes, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes that evoked the rustic bounties of Mediterranean groves—and a robust Cowboy variant, laden with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms, reminiscent of frontier feasts reimagined for the modern palate. The pricing, a beacon of affordability, clocked in at under $20 for family-sized portions, a stark contrast to the inflated tariffs of conventional pizzerias. This economic prudence, however, comes with the implicit contract of home baking, a facet that infuses the experience with both empowerment and peril.
Transporting our uncooked treasures home felt akin to smuggling contraband artistry; the pizzas, ensconced in plastic sheaths, retained a chill that bespoke their unadulterated freshness. No soggy crusts from steam-trapped delivery boxes here—Papa Murphy’s ethos hinges on this very preservation, ensuring ingredients sing with vitality upon heating. Yet, as we preheated the oven to the prescribed 425 degrees Fahrenheit, an undercurrent of trepidation emerged. The instructions, while ostensibly straightforward, harbored subtleties: a mere eight minutes sufficed for some, lest the mozzarella desiccate into a parched wasteland. Our first attempt yielded a mosaic of outcomes—the Vegetarian ascended to crispy nirvana, its edges gilded with caramelized perfection, while the Cowboy rebelled, its center a gooey quagmire that prompted jests about “pizza soup” and invocations of culinary gods for mercy.
Ps: please have jalapenos, banana peppers, etc.. as a topping option.
We got a Canadian bacon & PINEAPPLE (yes we did) the toppings were plentiful but something about the crust was off. We’re going to try thin crust next time
