My Go-To Spot Every Time for years
Sushi Kanpai has officially become my favorite sushi restaurant. The service here is genuinely excellent — my server always remembers that I love extra masago, which makes every visit feel personal and appreciated. The staff is attentive, friendly, and on top of everything.
The food is always delicious. Every roll I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. They consistently serve generous portions, and everything tastes incredibly balanced. On top of that, the prices are great for the quality and amount of food you get. It’s one of the few places where you feel like you’re getting real value with every dish.
If you love sushi, great service, and fair pricing, Sushi Kanpai is absolutely worth visiting. I always leave happy and full — highly recommend!

Walked up from our hotel during happy hour. We were seated immediately and served promptly. Our food was out within 10 minutes. Absolutely the fastest service we’ve ever received anywhere. Food was amazing. I opted for a Sake trio and let the staff choose for me. They made excellent choices. Our server was fast, friendly and very accurate. Again, wish they had merch. I would have left with a T-shirt or something. Stop by. Enjoy some sushi.

There are a limited number of gluten free menu options, but despite my reservations everything exceeded my expectations.
It was a short wait for everything to come out, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting with light relaxing music.
The sushi tastes very fresh, and the yellowtail just melted in my mouth.
I ordered the salmon dinner (request no teriyaki for gf) and it was cooked to flaky perfection.
The staff was accommodating and was knowledgeable of the gluten free menu, even substituting the miso soup for edamame at no extra charge that came with the salmon.
The prices are very reasonable considering the portion sizes and the quality of everything. I would highly recommend to those with or without food allergies and appreciate such a decadent and relaxing experience !!!

Terrible service with no customer empathy.
I walked in 30 mins before they close on a Wednesday night – they gave me a grubby looking corner terrible which killed the mood for the dining experience.
When I asked if I could get another table, they said “they were kept for larger groups”, despite the restaurant being dead empty half an hour before close on a midweek night.
If it was a busy night, I would’ve empathized with them, but on an empty night, their behavior seemed intentionally rude and unprofessional.
That set the tone for a forgettable dinner.
Average food, terrible dining experience, terrible service – not worth the steep prices.

Lunch bento options are a great deal, service is always really quick and polite. Sushi 3 roll lunch combo (big rolls!) with miso is about as much as a single special roll at ~$22. Their fish is really fresh, especially the salmon, so good!

Great vibe, great service, great value, good rolls. Went for a weekday lunch, and got 2x rolls (with miso soup) and a green tea iced tea all for $23 with tax. The place is nicely decorated and clean, staff welcoming and friendly. The rolls were good, the rice was a little bigger/fluffier than ideal for a sushi roll, but still tastes very good. Would certainly recommend for a nice, filling lunch – especially at the reasonable prices.

This quiet place tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of First Hill is a perfect balance between comfortable and delicious. We went 90 minutes before closing and it was really mellow vibes, the food came quick and was crafted extremely well, prices were rather affordable for the area. They have a wonderful sake selection that is very well detailed for the newcomers to find exactly what they’re looking for.
This place has both baked and fried sushi as well as traditional roles. My favorites were the Heart Attack and Crispy Alaska! The fried ice cream is also great!
They have a Demon Slayer Sake that was just delightful. This place is perfect for solo dining, group dining and intimate settings.

Definitely a decent option if you’re in this part of town. The sushi was quite affordable because we were there during happy hour. The sushi was overall what you’d expect. Nothing absolutely outstanding, but well worth the price. However, the staff were very friendly and quite helpful.
