I grab my box, all proud like I just graduated pizza school. But as I’m turning around, she appears. A wild old lady. No warning. No sound. Just a sudden gust of lavender perfume and Werther’s Originals.
She looks at me, squints hard, and goes, “That’s my pizza, you whippersnapper.”
I say, “Ma’am, this literally has my name on it.” I even show her the receipt.
But she ain’t having it.
She snatches the box from my hands with surprising old-lady strength, opens it, inspects a slice, sniffs it like she’s a bloodhound for mozzarella, then takes a bite. Just—CHOMP.
“Hmm,” she says, “Needs more garlic butter.”
At this point I’m too stunned to move. I mean, she just jacked my pizza mid-Papa John’s like it’s a hostage situation.
Then—AND I SWEAR THIS HAPPENED—she looks me dead in the eye, smiles with a piece of cheese stuck to her denture, and goes:
“You want a kiss for good luck, sugarplum?”
And she leans in.
I backpedaled so hard I almost fell into the soda fountain. I’m yelling, “Ma’am no!” and she’s chasing me in slow-motion with greasy lips and the confidence of someone who stormed Normandy and now storms pizzerias.
The employees just stood there, frozen in horror, one guy whispering, “Not again.”
Eventually they gave me a new pizza—double pepperoni, extra trauma—and told me she’s a “regular.”
I now carry garlic sauce as a repellant, just in case.
If you want to order by phone (when the app/site has issues), select to speak to a manager, if you select to place an order you will be sent to a call center. The call center has always messed up (once not even finalizing the order to be sent to the store), and then the store fixes things for me.
Selecting to speak to the manager usually gets me to a non manager (like I want). I state first that I don’t need a manager and just want to place an order. They are always friendly about this.
