Considering the small size of the bakery, the variety they offer is incredible. I honestly haven’t seen this many options in such a compact space anywhere in Chicago. The pricing is also very reasonable, making the experience feel even more worthwhile.
I tried the chorizo breakfast sandwich and the steak and egg sandwich, and both were outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The steak and egg sandwich was my personal favorite. I also sampled several pastries, including the Mexican hot chocolate roll, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry Danish. Everything was superb — it’s hard to go wrong with anything here.
Despite the long line, service is efficient and moves quickly. Overall, an excellent bakery with fantastic food, great value, and an impressive selection. Definitely worth the visit.
I wouldn’t recommend this place until they find a better system. They open for 3 hours only Saturday and Sunday and the line is 2 blocks long. People grab multiple boxes so by the time you get to the front after a brutal wait in the cold they are sold out.
The bread was good when I had it last year but it’s honestly not worth that kind of experience.
Please place a limit on the amount an individual can get or open more often. The bakery has been receiving a lot of well deserved hype for years now. There’s no excuse for this to keep happening it’s losing you loyal customers
I think they should be upfront and let people know up to which number the selection will last, so others can decide whether to stay or leave.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d come back.
The service? 2/10. I feel for the staff that I’m sure is up and running waaaay before opening time, they look overwhelmed, tired and stressed. The owner is always there (which is great) and she even admitted that day she got very little sleep because she was getting things ready. It’s sad that us as customers will stand on the Chicago cold for hours (literally), see people walk out with dozens of pastries and eventually get the staff to tell us that they’re sold out. They don’t care about us waiting outside as they refuse to cap the amount of pastries customer can purchase, at this point it feels like they just care about their product walking out the door and not all of their customers trying their amazing goods.
They have a pretty interesting concept inside the store (except for the extremely loud music blasting, I always have to get in my tippy toes to talk over the glass to the staff because I can’t hear them through the glass AND the music (the speakers are not very helpful)) the fact that they livestream the store gives you a pretty good idea of how crazy is inside there, I just wish they also streamed the area of the pastries, i constantly see people slowing down the line because they don’t know what’s in stock.
Owner is very talented in her craft and we all know this. I just wish they re-strategized their selling and storefront logistics and strategies. They need to understand that after so many years of being excellent, their business is starting to grow and change.
But why do they allow people with animals inside ??? There’s a woman making tortillas RIGHT THERE and yet there are no signs anywhere saying NO PETS. I know Hermosa is poppin (always has been) but these ppl love coming in everywhere with their dogs. Gross. I was sitting there eating and the people holding dogs never ended. TO THE OWNERS PLEASE FOLLOW UP WITH THIS AND ILL CHANGE MY RATING ! Thank you that’s the only thing that needs to change
