Taylor, our server, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and efficient. Jack, the owner, kindly came over and even suggested some upscale spots on the water. In the end, we decided to stay, and we’re glad we did.
The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. If you’re in Oceanside, definitely check out The Mill Room.
We tried brunch today and it seemed like they were a bit understaffed. I had the breakfast plate which had pork belly, two fried eggs, fried potatoes, and four pieces of sourdough. They didn’t have any real jelly (only a Serrano jelly from another dish) which was a bit disappointing with so much bread on my plate. It was a bit underwhelming as a dish. The 5$ Micheladas were good though.
My husband had the chicken and biscuit – the chicken was well seasoned, the batter was crispy. The biscuit was a bit dry and a little undercooked in the middle.
Our friend had the chilequilles – the texture was good, the carnitas were a necessary addition, and the sauce was a bit spicy / creamy. Overall about a 7/10.
Our first experience here was fabulous so we will give it another shot, but brunch was a bit mediocre for the expectation that I had from our first visit.
Then the food quality declined. Then the menu kept changing. Then the staff started to seem annoyed when any customer walked in.
I pass this place basically daily, and watched it draw in less and less people. Now it’s “The Mill Room.” Different name, same company. It looks like it completely lost it’s soul.
I’ll be so happy if they bring back what made this place great, but can’t say I’m expecting it.
We enjoyed all of the following:
– Burrata Plate
– Southwest Chop Salad (with Mahi Mahi)
– Frisée & Arugula Salad (with Mahi Mahi)
It was my brother-in-law’s birthday so they brought us the complimentary pretzel bites with ice cream and a berry topping. Very tasty. Well definitely come again soon.
Since a friend was in town, we got a few people together to visit PCS again and although the drinks are still TOP NOTCH, the menu was overhauled and none of us were very impressed with the food in general.
With one exception: my wife did love the goat cheese salad. Instead of sprinkling goat cheese like other places might do, they plopped a huge slice of goat cheese right onto the place. It was massive, and looked like a large piece of cake. This salad is a little unconventional in that way but we liked it.
The Pretzel Nuggets were just okay. The bread itself was fine, though it could have used substantially more rock salt. The included cheese sauce or dip was really lackluster. It lacked in boldness and flavor and I can honestly say it might be the blandest dipping sauce for a pretzel I’ve ever had. They also topped off the pretzels with a hatch chili pimento cheese. It looked strange on the plate, as if it fell off some other dish in the kitchen and right onto the top of the pretzel bread.
The Umami Shrimp Salad Rolls were terribly disappointing. The bread overpowered any contents inside and I could not tell I was eating a shrimp salad. I don’t recall getting any actual shrimp. I believe it’s there, just didn’t taste any. The rolls themselves were nice and if you replaced the shrimp salad with hot buttered lobster, I’d be blown away…
Two folks ordered the Brisket Philly and the verdict was a resounding “meh”. I didn’t try them or get a photo so I can only take their word.
The menu has interesting looking tacos and even wings, but you can only order them on one day: either Tuesday for tacos or Wednesday for wings. These should be available on the regular menu.
I hate dropping my score for PCS since I did love coming here the first time and I do think their cocktails are some of the best in Oceanside but the food program (which I believe is VERY important especially when serving alcohol) has taken a noticeable hit. Maybe this is just a seasonal thing and it’ll get worked out soon…
I’ll still absolutely bring friends to grab cocktails here as I love the vast drink menu but we’ll have to eat somewhere else first.
Note: service was great, as was the first time. We can’t underscore how nice it is to have a pleasant and helpful server.
Was on my motorcycle so didn’t drink that much, just sampled a bit of their bourbon.
Ordered a half pound of brisket. Pretty tasty and moist. I’ve been to some places where the brisket was dry and that is not how brisket should be. This was pretty solid.
Really liked the decor and atmosphere on the inside. Well-chosen music playing at a reasonable volume. Went outside for a bit but because it’s along the main thoroughfare it was a little noisy from the traffic. So when going back again with friends, I’ll recommend sitting inside. Definitely will not hesitate to come back here again.
