Motorkat

Update 02/07/26

Mother/ daughter team returned on a very cold weekend afternoon and was happy to find the experience just as enjoyable as our first visit. We were seated right away and chose from the brunch menu, which offers a well-curated selection without feeling overwhelming.

The food was delicious—my daughter enjoyed the brunch salad, I had the brunch hash with perfectly poached eggs, tender well-seasoned braised pork shoulder and a bright freshly made pesto that was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions.

A great spot for a relaxed meal, family-friendly, and popular with locals—especially for catching sports at the bar. Looking forward to returning to try their mouth watering oysters again.

1st Visit
Visiting my daughter’s new location and she brought me to this place. I’m not very familiar with Takoma Park’s dining scene yet, but if there are more spots like Motorkat, I’m excited to explore!

This charming restaurant sits right in the heart of the Takoma Park district. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. The area is walkable and has a relaxed neighborhood feel. Service was friendly and our server was knowledgeable about both the Happy Hour and Bar menus, since dinner service didn’t begin until 5 p.m.

Motorkat is known for its fresh raw oysters — and with their weekend special, they were an easy choice. We ordered the House Chips and Dip, Crispy Oysters, and a half dozen raw oysters, which arrived beautifully presented with a trio of sauces.

Everything was fresh and flavorful, especially the oysters, which were perfectly chilled and needed no extra embellishment.

I’ll definitely be back to explore the full dinner menu and enjoy more of those excellent oysters.

For months now, my friends have been recommending Motorkat. Located near many of Takoma Park’s gems, Motorkat is a restaurant and bar with plenty of seating and an outdoor patio.

Popping in on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, I was served right away. Their brunch menu has something for everyone on it from French toast to biscuits and gravy. To eat, I ended with the brunch hash with vegan sausage. It tasted very fresh!

To drink, I enjoyed their Cava and elderflower liqueur. So refreshing!

I came here for their sake pairing menu event. The service and the food were AMAZING. The team were extremely accommodating of my friend and I’s dietary restrictions. Also the bar itself is so cute!

Dish, Don’t Kill My Vibe
Checked out their brunch in Takoma Park, and the portions are just as generous as the food is delicious. Between the warming, cozy atmosphere and the genuinely stellar service, it’s exactly what you want for a lazy weekend morning. Come ready to eat, leave ready for a nap.

Stopped by the first time. Great old school vibe with a modern twist. High quality elevated meals (really good quality & rich taste), fairly priced. Filemon was the highlight though. Funny, kind, helpful and served up the best oysters I’ve had in the 5 years since I moved to D.C.!!!

Just visited for Sunday brunch after having stopped in for dinner once – it did not disappoint. The menu was great and our food was delicious. He had the hash and I had the rosti – both were very flavorful and creative dishes. My young son and I also had freshly squeezed orange juice and that was splendid. Will be coming back soon, hopefully.

Ordered the oysters, steak and grilled zucchini along with Crème brûlée with chocolate for desert. Everything was great! We really liked the menu, will be back to try more.

We made a New Year’s Eve reservation through Motorcat’s special NYE celebration link, expecting a special menu, drinks, and festive atmosphere. We chose a later 9:15 pm seating specifically to enjoy a celebratory dinner and stay through midnight, and were required to secure the reservation with a non-refundable deposit.

When we arrived a few minutes early at 9:10 pm, we were told that dinner service—including the advertised NYE menu—had ended at 9:00. It’s hard to understand why reservations were offered for a dinner they weren’t actually serving.

The atmosphere was underwhelming, and the service was poor to the point that we had to ask for basics like silverware and water. Instead of the special NYE swordfish we expected, we were left with standard bar food—salty and unremarkable. The oysters, as always, were good, but they’re nothing special to NYE and available any night.

The drinks were even more disappointing: my wife was served flat sparkling wine, then told it was “supposed” to be flat, and eventually given a glass of their cheapest cava as a replacement.

We had considered bringing friends to celebrate with us and are honestly relieved we didn’t—this would have been an embarrassing experience to share. Overall, this was not the New Year’s Eve dinner or atmosphere we were hoping for. If you’re just looking for the same bar food available every night, this might work, but it fell far short of a NYE celebration. So we left early and watched the ball drop with Ryan Seacrest instead.

Very solid local. Bar vibes are immaculate, makes you feel like the before times (pre pandemic. Always busy – in a good way- with lively bar and restaurant seating. Zatar wings are soooooo good, extremely crispy with the perfect yogurt sauce. The dudes working the oyster station are probably the hardest working, happiest people I’ve ever seen behind a bar.

Come for the happy hour (half off oysters) and then don’t ever stop coming back.

Enjoyed the vibe of this little neighborhood eatery and the service was really lovely. Our waiter was incredibly helpful when picking our food and ordering drinks. We tried the spiced fries ( ), mozzarella sandwich ( ), burger ( ) and the banoffee trifle ( ). We’d probably come back here for the vibes and service but will try ordering some different things! One small touch I loved is that they serve you a small bonus bite – ours was an onion jam and focaccia bite which was a great touch.
