Oriental Express & Catering – A True Hidden Gem in Harrisonburg
Oriental Express in Harrisonburg has truly impressed me with its quality, freshness, and authentic flavors. The General Tso’s Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Sesame Chicken were perfectly cooked — crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor. The Coconut Shrimp was another highlight — large, juicy, and coated in a light coconut glaze that wasn’t overly sweet. And the Crab Rangoons were golden, crunchy, and generously filled — easily among the best I’ve had anywhere.
Everything arrived fresh, hot, and neatly packed, showing real care from both the kitchen and staff. The customer service was polite and attentive, and it’s clear the owners genuinely listen to feedback and continuously improve their dishes.
Having traveled and dined across the U.S., Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Canada, I can confidently say this restaurant delivers exceptional quality and consistency that rival many international favorites. My main Chinese take out spots have normally been Imperial 42 and Panda Express. Nice to have this location close by. In comparison, the quantity was lacking however the quality was good. The chicken actually tastes like chicken and not rubbery rat meat. Also didn’t seem too overloaded with MSG. Overall 9/10 and would order again.

As a child of the eighties and nineties who experienced the heyday of the shopping mall , this place reminds me so much of those awesome chinese restaurants in the food courts that would give you all kinds of samples the food’s super tasty and price better than I thought. These new places have a hard time getting started so let’s help them out. The owner seems super nice, too. I thoroughly recommend giving this place a try..

Friendly and attentive service located in a beautiful area with views all around out the windows. Perfect for grabbing a quick bite with friends or sitting by yourself with your paper or laptop for a bit.
There are plenty of options and combos to choose from as well as sides and popular menu choices.
There is also a convenient drive through also if you can’t dine in.
The restaurant is very clean and colorful, and the food was fantastic!

My wife and I came here for the first time today and it’s our new favorite Chinese spot in town! Everything we tried was good, but the side of lo mein was surprisingly flavorful. Very good. The woman serving us was so nice and friendly even though she was fulfilling so many orders. She did a great job!

I just tried bourbon chicken and sesame chicken for the first time, and it’s incredible! The chicken is so soft and tender, better than any I’ve had at other Chinese restaurants. The flavors are amazing, the bourbon chicken is sweet and savory, and the sesame chicken is crispy with the perfect touch of sweetness. The staff was super patient, answering all my questions in detail. Totally worth it, I’ll be back!
