Had a really good experience here and would highly recommend. Food was excellent, especially the pizza! I got the Tomato and Cheese, and the Spinach, feta, and mushroom. Also, the potato and leak croissant was great if you’re not craving something sweet. My wife tried a scone and a latte and enjoyed both. You won’t be disappointed here.

Recommended this by a friend and was not disappointed! As fate would have it, good ol Norfolk Southern stopped right when I was about to cross so decided to come eat. The chai tea latte was delicious and loved the food too. Will definitely be back!!

The good: soup was excellent, bread amazing, brownies yummy and I loved that the sandwich came with chips or an apple!

The bad: prices were just a little high for what you got. Workers were not very friendly for the most part.

The ugly: the area is rough, they have to put away the cash tips immediately instead of leaving them in the tip Jar. Having worked a place like this, I know why and it’s obvious when you walk around the area.

Sad to see so many shops boarded up, homeless people hanging out, etc. Liberal policies have negative consequences and don’t seem to help the community or the poor people, but you get what you vote for.

The first worker was excellent and won me over. Everyone else seemed to not really be all that into the whole friendliness thing.

Visited Roanoke with friends for a birthday getaway. On the morning of my birthday, we 3 headed here during a normal weekday time. We were the only ones there. We each ordered a latte and some pastries. I pull myself a latte daily at home. The milk in these were UNACCEPTABLY scalded temperature (had to be min190+) well above what any trained barista should deliver (and especially without a warning.) The steam was noticeable when they arrived so we all waited at least 5min to even try a sip. Happy birthday to me!! I got burned taste buds for the rest of that day even after waiting and blowing on it, etc. Those should never have gotten into any customer’s hands. Potato leek tart was tasty, they were out of most other pastries.

Atmosphere – Perfect
Service – Very odd, you must give them your card and they don’t accept many common payment methods. The staff bumble around and don’t seem motivated at all, food took a long time and it wasn’t even that great. I think the menu items are really amazing on paper, just not executed quite right.
Food – Just in the middle, not really worth the price since the portions aren’t filling at all.

I discovered On the Rise recently, had walked past it on lunch before but finally decided to give it a try. So happy I did, the location itself is quiet and comfortable, definitely ideal for a nice calm lunch. I had the special which was a pimento cheese grilled cheese and cheddar tomato soup. It was so good, the sandwich was so cheesy and soup really delicious. They have a massy selection of treats like cupcakes and brownies. I will definitely be back and absolutely recommend.

A cute bakery and coffee place! So many options to choose from. The chai latte is delicious and the pizza was amazing! We got the wrong drink but they fixed it for us immediately! We always love coming downtown to visit this store.

3.5 but jaded…. I have diabetes and needed a snack so I got a slice. But were visiting from the pizza capital of the world, the greater New Haven area. Very very very basic pizza. No flop with a light soft crust. Thick crust in nature.

The coffee was fresh and robust. And the assortment of pastries were great. Def recommend for Cafe bakeshop needs
