Since we don’t live there anymore we craved Mexican food.
Our first impression was great the atmosphere was festive and the restaurant is clean.
My husband ordered a ‘California Burrito’ and for myself a ‘Tostada Salad’.
The food arrived quickly since we had just arrived in San Diego and made our way to the only viable restaurant that was still open, yet is was about 10 min before closing.
Linda our waitress was super nice esp. since she didn’t mind how late we arrived.
During our stay we ate there about 3 times. Well it was easy to just walk there from the hotel. Then we got some exercise walking back to the hotel, better for digestion.
By the photos you will see our dishes from previous days. To me food was amazing, full of flavor and add fast add we can tell, close to authentic Mexican cuisine with appealing presentation. Our waitresses were Linda, Claudia and I think Janet. They were incredible and professional and their uniforms were clean, with a little color from makeup.
I enjoyed taking photos of the restaurant as it was well decorated, full of charming, spacious style.
Definitely I recommend On The Border Mexican Grill Restaurant!
Service was friendly and very efficient. We had margaritas, warm chips and salsa within moments of being sat. House margaritas were definitely on the more powerful side which I loved. Oh and the chips, same as years ago, thin halved corn tortillas fried golden and crispy, salsa, also the same with a mild fresh taste.
Apps.. can’t go wrong with their Queso Fundido. Spoon a few tablespoons of creamy melted cheese onto a freshly made hot flour tortilla, game over. Was exactly how I remembered it. Honestly compared to other local Mexican restaurants OtBs version wasn’t greasy and broken; pays to be doing something for a long time. We also had their guacamole, needed more lime and salt but that we an easy fix.
Entrees, I had Ultimate Fajita’s, chicken, shrimp, steak and carnitas all served on a bed of peppers, onions and squash. I thought I’d hate the squash but it was pretty darn good dunked in the accompanied hot butter. They came out sizzling hot and delicious. My hubby had the Enchiladas Suizas. I had a few bites, pretty good but didn’t really compare to my fajitas.
All in all we had a good time and left very satisfied. Given that we live downtown, I’d be hard pressed to drive all the way there unless of course I was in the area or feeling nostalgic.
Let me tell you frankly, I loved the place and the interior. Very beautiful place with the lovely and attractive decor, table setting, and the chandelier made with colorful bottles attracted me more. And not to forget about the falls season decor. Everything was perfect.
The hostess was very friendly and attentive. As soon as we arrived, she brought chips and salsa.
We ordered Grilled Chicken Fiesta and the OTB’s speciality- Border Smart Chicken Fajitas. The food arrived on time and the Chicken Fajita was sizzling hot. Food was delicious and the portion was well enough for the two of us. It’s absolutely value for money.
If I get a chance to visit again, I will surely go there.
