Food was really good. The brisket was some of the best I have had. Ribs fell off the bone, wings are on the large size. Cream corn is a must to order. Finished off the meal with red velvet cake, big enough for 2 people. Definitely coming back next time I’ll try the meat player.

Welcome to Old Southern BBQ! They’ve got multiple locations around the Twin Cities, and honestly, every single one we’ve visited has been absolutely fantastic and super consistent. The service is great across the board, and this has kind of become our go-to spot. One of the big highlights for us is that the cornbread is made in-house, not from a package, and it really makes a difference. Definitely a spot worth trying out!

This place should be on diners, drive-ins, and dives….the food is that good. Get the ribs when they come hot out of the smoker. Stop in to find out time that is. The Mac and cheese is the best in the country above the mason Dixon line.

And if your simple, the brisket and pulled pork is amazing

Yes, it’s similar to Famous Dave’s. I was on the fence about this place because it seems to be a chain but everything was great. Sliced brisket was super tender and flaky, the tangy slaw found its way on the sandwich, not watery or runny, the fries were seasoned nicely and the tasty BBQ sauce was a good addition to the cheese and slaw in the sandwich. About a 10 min wait to prepare, worth it. I got it as take out. Also, a side note… I tried to go to Q Fanatic earlier in the day…closed. Then I tried Bakers Ribs, also closed. The last time I went to Mr. Pig it wasn’t impressive but it was expensive!
Glad I tried Old Southern!

Been here a few times now and I do enjoy the food and service!
You get a good portion of meat, and the sauces they make are great. It is a walk up counter type of food place and self service drink station. Perfect place if you want to get a quick quality BBQ.
My go to is either ribs and brisket platter or the ‘make your own bowl’. I’ve also tried their salad and that was good.

Service was really friendly. Food was pretty good, but the brisket was a bit dry and tough. Sides were superb though, mac and cheese and coleslaw were memorable. The table we sat at had some sticky spots and the BBQ sauce containers were all covered with sauce residue on the sides. Overall good and would go back to try the other menu items.

I tried this place a couple of times on a recommendation from a friend. The first time I had brisket it was pretty good as well as the pulled pork. I did try the beans as well as the macaroni and cheese both of which were really good. The last time I was there I had the chicken and I found it to be incredibly dry like it was sitting to long. The cornbread is very good. I failed to take a picture of my other plate that I had.

15 February 2026 – Visited Old Southern BBQ @ 8088 Old Carriage Ct, Shakopee, MN 55379.
*** Terrific Food! Friendly, Helpful & Efficient Service! Great BBQ Option to Enjoy at the Restaurant or To-Go! BREWED Iced Tea served here as Sweet & Unsweet! ***
-> Enjoyed the BBQ Memphis Bowl (Mashed potatoes; Jimmie Beans (baked beans, peppers, brisket, pork, and hot links in a sweet and savory sauce); Memphis Combo (typically pulled pork and/or sausage); Cheddar cheese, Party Corn! (sweet roasted corn); pickled red onions; diced tomatoes; drizzled w/ BBQ sour cream. * I added Brisket to the Memphis Bowl to add a bit more flavor and protein.
–> Also Enjoyed the Delicious Potato Salad (potatoes, mayonnaise [often Duke’s], yellow mustard, and sweet relish; hard-boiled eggs, finely diced onion, celery, white or apple cider vinegar, and paprika for garnish).
—> Coleslaw comes in Two Forms: 1. Creamy; 2. Tangy. – Both are Good, just depends on your palette.
—-> Also Enjoyed the Pork Ribs as a Half-Slab (6 pork ribs).
—–> Terrific Variety in Tasty BBQ Sauces Include: SOUTHERN GAL: A sweet, popular sauce featuring brown sugar and molasses, ideal for everything.
DIXIE RED: A robust, award-winning Kansas City-style sauce, described as all-natural and smoky.
CHICAGO BLUE: A mild and tangy sauce.
CHICAGO FIRE: A bold, hot, and lively sauce for those who want heat. (From the South? This is just a bit of zest, zing, or hot. From the North? Well, Norwegians & Scandinavians sometimes consider Ketchup to be a “salsa,” so, maybe use it sparingly. LOL!)
JIMMIE’S ORIGINAL: A zesty and “sassy” secret family recipe.

We love the bbq. However ordered Christmas ham dinner the ham was good the mashed potatoes were terrible you would need a straw to “sip” them and the green bean casserole was mediocre. Christmas dinner for us was basically ruined. we had ham and Apple pie. Would not order again. Also when we placed our order never received a confirmation email had to call a few times to get straightened out. So much for a good hassle free Christmas dinner.
