We were excited to visit Ohashi and celebrate a birthday but though we arrived at 5pm when they opened, were seated right away and ordered quickly we did not receive our food until 6:15 and our waiter did not check on us once. The busers did check on us for drink refills but when food arrived it was only half of the tables orders. Entres arrived before appetizers and anyone at the table who ordered sushi was left waiting. Sushi orders then came out one at a time ( we had four orders) starting at 6:30. As of 6:45 we still had not received our soup or cucumber salads. In terms of quality it was nothing impressive, decent, but sadly not worth the wait.

A quick note of context: O’Hashi has been open for only two weeks, so early hiccups are to be expected. While service was a bit slow, they’re clearly managing a wave of enthusiastic local support for Chef Gustavo. The sushi was outstanding — easily the best in town. With a little time, I expect the front of house to catch up with the kitchen; I hope early critics will give them that chance.

Absolutely wonderful food!
One of our favorite places in Taos.
I’ve known the owner for over 20 years. He is an amazing chef and is very kindhearted.
If you love Japanese cuisine and are looking for sushi that is fresh and authentic this is your place!

I sense from other reviews and my own experience tonight that going in with patience is key. I suspect patience will also aid in determining one’s experience here. I decided to get takeout this eve and started simple for first time. I look forward to trying the sushi more in depth in future. The chef and hosts were immediately welcoming and helpful. I already know the space is great due to prior restaurant experience here. They were upfront about how long the wait would be and I graciously accepted as I could walk nearby for a few errands. When I returned they were welcoming and helpful again. There is beautiful artwork up that is easy to get lost in during a wait, as well. Just finished eating miso soup, seaweed salad and Udon with chicken at home. The Udon with Chicken was no doubt the highlight. As it is cold tonight, the meal was rewardingly cozy like a great chicken noodle soup should be and the broth was full of flavor and superb. I could tell from the salad that the food is indeed super fresh.
If you go, don’t go with rushing in mind. Go expecting a longer wait for food prep, but if like my experience your patience will be rewarded.

I’m posting this in the hopes that this can be used as constructive feedback, not to drag a new sushi place. But my friend & I went here on Friday night. Atmosphere was nice, but service wasn’t good. We had to ask for straws, napkins, silverware, chopsticks, and plates & soy sauce dishes for the appetizers. Food was disappointing. My friend & I are easy to satisfy, so this wasn’t us being picky. And we each tried everything, so we were sure it wasn’t just in our heads. Spring rolls were cold in the middle, tempura was crunchy but had no flavor, nor did the sauce. We ordered 3 rolls, we each liked one, but there was a third that was very flavorless and mushy. We each got an entree, her udon wasn’t the most flavorful, but my sesame chicken was truly bad. I’ve never sent a meal back before, but after trying to eat it, I had to give up. I told the waitress that it had no flavor and she offered more sauce. The sauce was watery, like a whisper of flavor. I told her additional sauce didn’t help, and she took it off of our bill (I think), which I appreciated. The prices on the menu differed from prices on the ordering sheet. We went to pay and the bill was $82, and we selected a 20% tip, which brought the total to $112 (should have been $98.40). We asked for a receipt. It wasn’t itemized, but then we noticed that there were like $12 – $14 in additional charges that were undisclosed on the payment screen, but accounted for in the tip percentage. Not into that. Unfortunately we won’t be coming back here.
