Obelix exceeded my expectations. I was expecting traditional french bistro fare and was impressed with their unique takes on classic dishes. The steak tartare was reminiscent of Vietnamese cuisine with lovely herbs, peppers and fried shallots. The scallop with caviar was a stunner and the Moroccan carrots were a sleeper hit. Get the chocolate souffle because you’re worth it

This dinner ranks in the top 3 meals I’ve ever eaten in my life and if you look through my other reviews you’ll see I’ve eaten quite a few incredible meals! I knew once Fabiola greeted me at the door that I was gonna be in good hands that evening! The quality service continued throughout the entire experience and I never found myself wanting for something that hadn’t already been provided for me!

Good French/Belgian food is hard to find in my home city of Charlotte, so I try to seek it out occasionally when I travel. Obelix made its way onto my Chicago itinerary by way of brunch – which for my fellow travelers who are mindful of budget, is a great way to enjoy a nicer meal with some cost savings.

I’ve been wanting to go to Obelix for a while now. Reading the great reviews and the instagramers raving about it. Last night I finally made it there, for my birthday celebration. The food lives up to the hype, the staff was awesome, cocktails on point. But one detail spoiled my whole experience. We only sat down 40 minutes after my reservation! And to my surprise, after about 30 minutes one of the hostess told me one of the restaurant owners had to be sat with his party before mine. They paid for our drinks at the bar and that was great, but knowing the owners don’t give a damn for their customers is a reason I’ll never step foot in this place ever again. Chicago is filled with amazing chefs and restaurants, and definitely places I’m treated like a costumer not as someone paying for a check.

We’ve been wanting to check this place out since early summer. We didn’t have a reservation, but showed up at 5 and snagged seats at the bar. 5 minutes later the bar was full.

I was really looking forward to this place. It really didn’t live up to the hype. Maybe they are overly busy and slightly understaffed. Service was okay at best. Food was over seasoned and not balanced. There are few options here for dietary constraints. If you like gluten and cheese your all good; otherwise you will have better luck somewhere else. However the atmosphere is great; it’s lively and busy. People seem to be having fun. If you are going here stick to wine and oysters. That seemed to be the best way to go.

This was such a fun dining experience. Went into it not knowing if I would love everything in the menu but we ordered a ton and shared it all and it was fab. There was 6 of us and it was great for shared plates as a group! The carrots were a highlight. The baked Alaska was also amazing. Dan was our server and he truly went above and beyond!

Was looking forward to trying this restaurant so much but it not only failed to impress but I was extremely disappointed both with the food and service. The host was unprofessional. We called ensuring a table would be available in 20 minutes and was told it was not a problem. We got there and there were 4 empty tables with sofa by the window but she said it’s all reserved. We sat at the bar. Not long after us, another guest, also walked in without prior reservation, asked for the table by the window that we had requested and they waited by the bar for a couple of minutes and were offered the tables by the window. Service did not impress to begin with and was hoping the food was still worth it. Unfortunately the escargot was not authentic, the French onion soup had the taste like lumps of flour inside that was not mixed properly. The foie gras monte cristo – duck was overdone, French toast was extremely oily and the reduction was way too sweet. The apple mignonette sauce for the oyster has no love to it. Utterly disappointing meal. There was a fly inside the restaurant too showing how much they take pride in its cleanliness. The only nice person was the bartender.

The star of this restaurant is the foie-co (foie gras taco) with freshly made thick corn tortillas, generous portion of foie gras, and some pomegranates to help bring those flavors together. I had read on Yelp that it’s a single person portion appetizer but found it would have been enough for the two of us.
