Can’t say enough good things about this place. Everything was excellent from FOH to BOH to bar and then table. Grateful to have experienced — had been on my list for a very long time.
Their menu is extremely unique and creative, touching on French classics with some updates twists.
The night went like this …
Oysters,
Caviar tartlettes,
Foie gras on crispy rice,
Gem salad,
French onion soup,
Pasta with king crab and mussels,
Boeuf côte cooked perfectly, and
Port and a Swiss roll cake with rosemary ice cream.
WHEW!!!
Gotta give it up for the amazing staff here. Thank you for a beautiful night!
The macarons were good. I would have liked a little more fois gras as I felt the flavor was light, but I thought it was a fun dish and would get it again.
The escargot was escargot. Nothing special about it, just well executed. I appreciated that the escargot was not sandy at all so good on the kitchen for making sure everything was properly cleaned.
The Salade Lyonnaise Connard was very good and interesting. I don’t think the presentation is as good as it can be, or that it makes it look very appetizing, but the flavor was great. I would definitely order it again.
Overall, very good French food which is available at a reasonable price in a nonstuffy restaurant.
However, the steak frites sandwich for brunch is a weekend getaway. This handheld magic is the finest culinary staycation in town. It tastes just as good as it looks. One bite and you’re considering ordering another. Pair responsibly with the Moroccan carrots, and layer in a French red.
The pistachio croissant. A must have!
Made possible by a very welcoming, authentic, and knowledgeable staff.
See you soon!
We arrived shortly before our reservation, but had to wait 10ish minutes for the table ahead of us to leave.
Once we were seated our serve appeared and introduced himself and told us that there were already two items unavailable on the menu. They open at 10:30 and our reservation was at noon…only 1.5 hours and they were already sold out of pastries.
We ordered a salad and some bread to start and then entrees, unfortunately it all arrived at once and wasn’t appropriately coursed out, which was a bit disappointing. But the food all around was wonderful. Everything was plated beautifully and tasted great!
Would like to come back to try dinner service.
However, the kitchen was extremely slow (we waited 45mins for our entrees and the restaurant was not busy at all).
Probably next time will come back for a dinner, won’t recommend if you are on a tight schedule.
Next we were greeted with a smile by the host who informed us our table wasn’t quite ready and invited us to enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the bar. We headed over, ordered our drinks and the bartender was attentive and engaging and rather than cash us out when our table was ready, happily transferred the drinks to the table. Our host took our coats, didn’t give us a ticket for them and when we left was already retrieving them before we got to the host station.
Here’s the one mark against the experience – it’s minor and only barely notable: our table was very small for four people and was located at the center of the restaurant near a large column that was also the main wait station and at one point one of the staff was loudly stocking silverware directly behind my wife’s head. I love the hustle and bustle of hopping spot (this was) but things were tight here and distracted from an otherwise exceptional experience.
Speaking of exceptional, our server was friendly and extremely helpful in providing guidance navigating the menu and ordering. She provided insight to the family style intent of the majority of the menu including timing for the Beef Wellington (we didn’t order), the Dover Sole…an iconic dish that was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious…and the number of appetizers and sides, and even picking the right veg. based in the flavor profiles of the dishes ordered.
Caviar Tartlet – served in a delicious pastry shell with celery root foam, and crème fraiche. Priced and served individually a perfect first bite – I could eaten ten more.
Next was the Steak Tartare – again just an absolute home run served with toasted bread and some gem lettuce for a wheat sensitivity at the table.
Terrine Au Foie Gras – this was non-negotiable for me – I was getting this even if I was the only one eating it. I have been chasing this dragon since my first trip to France and what I found in this dish was perfection.
Salad Lyonnaise “Canard” – one of the best dishes I have ever eaten, period. The duck confit was utter perfection and generously portioned.
Dover Sole – as stated – iconic!
Caramelle De Salsifis Et Truffe – a generous amount of truffles added table side – this dish was a revelation – rich, complex, and just the right size.
Roasted Broccilini – the addition of carmelized milk crumbs were unique and complimented the sauce choron… and it was, in fact perfect veg. To go with our meal choice. The dessert soufflé takes 30 minutes, be sure to order ahead of time the sticky toffee soufflé was just the right thing to end an amazing meal. Order these and you won’t be disappointed!!! – no notes
Service was a bit uneven, with an awkward 40-minute lull between small plates and mains. Also worth noting that the bill includes an automatic 4% employee retention charge.
Overall, Obelix delivers a polished take on French dining, and it’s a worthy spot to visit for a special occasion (especially for duck lovers!).
