The elote dip kicked things off perfectly, followed by a creamy Caesar with crisp romaine and baby tomato’s. Then came the short rib—worth its own sentence. Charred, crispy Brussels sprouts, smooth mashed potatoes, and a melt-in-your-mouth short rib that was bigger than expected and cooked perfectly.
Madison, training Grace, delivered pleasant and attentive service that set a standard others should follow.
My only disappointment? Not going sooner. — eating dinner at OAK 36.
We ordered something straightforward: a chicken caesar wrap (or whatever their version of a basic chicken wrap is) with onion rings on the side. They said about 20 minutes. A full 50 minutes later, we were still waiting. When we finally asked a server what the holdup was, she treated us like we were the problem—rude, dismissive, no apology, no sense of urgency. Zero customer service.
Then the food shows up… and it was so far from noteworthy, could not be more average if it tried. The wrap was cold, soggy in spots, dry in others, and only half full so it fell apart the instant we picked it up. Onion rings? Greasy and limp.
The place was half empty during “dinner time,” yet they couldn’t manage to serve hot food or even get it to the table in a reasonable window. When we asked for a refund or at least a partial one (because who wants to pay for cold, falling-apart food?), the server snapped back with the legendary line: “well I don’t know what to tell you it’s dinner service.” Newsflash: Dinner time doesn’t excuse the extended wait with a side of sass, especially when the restaurant isn’t even busy.
This wasn’t just an off night—it was actively terrible service, subpar food, and zero accountability. They brag about creative American dishes and a classy vibe, but what we got was overpriced disappointment.
Savannah has way too many great spots to waste time or money here. Hard pass. Do better.
Oak 36 – Espresso Martinis, Wood-Fired Magic, and Bar Vibes Done Right
We always sit at the bar everywhere we go—it’s where you catch the true vibe of a place—and at Oak 36, the energy, cocktails, and service are outstanding.
Andrew, the bar manager, took our experience to another level. Not only is he knowledgeable and engaging, but he knows the menu inside and out. He suggested going with the double meatball option—so we ended up with four of their incredible wood-fired meatballs for less than the price of three on the lunch menu. That kind of thoughtful, guest-first recommendation is exactly what sets great service apart.
The meatballs themselves were fantastic: tender, perfectly seasoned, kissed with fire from the oven, and finished with a rich tomato sauce that made us want to order another round. Pair that with one of the best espresso martinis in Savannah—silky, balanced, and beautifully presented—and it was the perfect lunch.
The bar has a modern, open vibe: backlit shelves lined with spirits, flat screens for game day, and a crowd that feels like a mix of locals and food-savvy visitors. Sitting at the bar here isn’t just about convenience—it’s the best seat in the house.
Final Verdict: Oak 36 nails it on food, drinks, and hospitality. Andrew deserves a shoutout for making us feel like regulars on the first visit. Whether you’re here for lunch, happy hour, or a late-night espresso martini, make sure to sit at the bar.

We stopped in for happy hour and were impressed with the quality and value. The wood-fired meatballs were absolutely delicious, served with crusty bread for dipping, and paired perfectly with their cocktails. The espresso martini was one of the best I’ve had — smooth, rich, and beautifully presented.
The space itself is inviting with plenty of seating, a great bar setup, and friendly staff who make the experience easy and enjoyable. Our bartender was especially informative, taking time to explain drink options and specials, which made the visit even better. I also love that they offer 50% off bottles of wine on Saturdays — such a fun reason to stop in with friends.
However, the Brussel sprouts (appetizer) were delicious.
The cocktails were great. Love the craft cocktails It was Whiskey Wednesday, so I got a discount off my cocktail.
They are dog friendly (outside seating). Also, the music was great – jazz, blues, classics and not too loud. Seating is great, too. If I had to work, it would be a great spot.
Definitely a spot to make a regular.
The fries were great and the Elote dip was great.
There was nothing “small” about the house fries. Enough to share for 4 and were tasty.
Fish and chips (I subbed onion rings) were a disappointment. 2 of us at the table got it and neither of us ate very much of it. The batter lacked any sort of seasoning. They were overcooked and Very greasy; not even the sauces could save it.
The fries were crispy, golden, and served hot. My cheesesteak was made with real ribeye steak, which was very tender and flavorful. My salad was perfect, with crisp green lettuce and tangy Caesar dressing. My husband’s sandwich had perfectly seasoned chicken that was tender and complemented by a sweet sauce. His Brussels sprouts were cooked to a crispy finish and had a delightful crunch.
We truly enjoyed our food and look forward to returning!
