New Century offers truly amazing, authentic Vietnamese food. Their spring rolls are incredibly unique. Having traveled and tasted food all over the world, I still haven’t found anything quite like them!
From the fragrant pho to the rice dishes and desserts, we loved every bite. While the pho portions may have gotten slightly smaller over the years, the quality remains high. It is fresh, delicious, and offered at a very good price. A must visit for any food lover in CNY!

Hidden in plain sight on a sleepy stretch of Kirkpatrick Street, New Century doesn’t look like much from the outside—just a faded brick building with a sun-bleached awning, wedged into a quiet, unassuming neighborhood. You might second-guess yourself as you walk up the worn steps, but don’t turn back. This is one of those rare places where the soul of the food quietly outshines its shell.

Inside, the décor is an eclectic fusion of Buddhist posters, faux flowers, statues, and decades-old furniture, giving the space a vibe somewhere between a spiritual retreat and an Asian family banquet hall that’s seen better days. The building is cavernous—much too big for the sparse crowd when we visited—which only adds to its mysterious charm. A hand-written sign reminds you: “We are not a fast food restaurant. Please be patient.” And trust me, it’s worth the wait.

We ordered:
#33. Bún Đặc Biệt – Special Combo Vermicelli ($17.95)
A hefty, colorful bowl topped with grilled shrimp, egg roll, shredded pork, pork meatballs, and beef—every component was perfectly seasoned and charred. The fresh herbs and pickled vegetables underneath offered brightness and crunch, balanced by the fish sauce on the side.
#10. Phở Đặc Biệt – Special Combo Pho
A deeply aromatic broth, subtly sweet and clear, swimming with rare steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef balls. This is the kind of pho that doesn’t need condiments—it’s confident on its own. Clean, soulful, and expertly balanced.
#111. Sinh Tố Sầu Riêng – Durian Shake ($5.95)
Thick, creamy, unapologetically durian. Sweet and pungent, a must for lovers of the King of Fruits.
Chè Khoai Môn Bạch Quả – Sweet Rice with Taro & Gingko in Coconut Cream ($5.95)
This dessert is comfort in a bowl. Warm, sticky rice bathed in rich coconut milk, with chunks of soft taro and subtle gingko. Not too sweet—just right.

The menu is expansive and mostly in Vietnamese—an encouraging sign of authenticity. Prices are modest considering the quality and portion sizes. Service is patient and kind, like you’re visiting someone’s auntie who cooks better than anyone in the family.

Verdict:
New Century is a true hidden gem—more spiritual temple than trendy eatery. The space may be aging, but the food is honest, generous, and masterfully made. Come for the pho, stay for the durian shake, and leave with your stomach full and your spirit strangely soothed.

In the area for business travel and like to try new places. Very pleasant atmosphere, clean and quiet. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Ordered the spring rolls and pho. It was prepared quickly and tasted delicious. I only gave 4 stars on the food since some of the noodles were clumped together but overall taste was good. Note that the price is higher when paying with credit card. This is noted very clearly on the menu. Also they added a 15% tip. I will Vito again and recommend.

I’ve been for lunch a few times and enjoyed it so took my family for dinner last weekend. We all enjoyed our meals, and the restaurant was warm which was fantastic given the weather! What I wanted to share here most was the phenomenal team there. My 87-year old mother was unable to stand, let alone walk, when we were ready to go (from exhaustion vs. anything at the restaurant!) The gentleman noticed we were having trouble and SO kindly offered the help of a few of his team. One of them carried, with my son, my mother in a chair all the way to our car, in the rain. And, they wouldn’t take a tip. I was so grateful for their help and kindness. Really good people. I will return for the food AND the owners/staff. Thank you, thank you for your humanity.

I love this place. The food is great and it’s a simple ma and pa place. The pho is outstanding! ( if you’re really hungry you can get extra noodles for $1) I always get the spring rolls because they are super fresh. The raw beef w tumerum is excellent. We got the fish today ( see pic) and it was tasty.

Food was disappointing overall. The food didn’t stand out, and the service was poor. What made the experience uncomfortable was the manager expecting a minimum 15% tip at checkout, despite not checking in with guests during the meal. This created a tense and awkward dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place for dine-in.

This place is not just the best Vietnamese in town, but quite possibly some of the best food in town full stop. Highly impressed with the service, quality, and selection. Those complaining about hidden fees have no observation skills. They clearly state that a gratuity of 15% is added to all bills and there is a cash discount. Highly recommend going with a group so you can share several dishes family style.

The pho here is amazing! Having lived in little Saigon for years, I’m quite picky about good pho. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese food and flavor in a good atmosphere. Everyone there was super nice and friendly.

I had the Beef Pho and the broth was so delicious with some added hot chili sauce. It definitely was warming. My vegetable egg rolls came with the nicest sweet sauce. My server was very helpful and was able to answer the questions I asked. I definitely will be back again to try other dishes. Overall, most of the ingredients tasted fresh and the service was fast. My waiter was also very friendly and made sure I was taken care of.

What a great find! Super friendly staff and efficient service. Had the pork and beef spicy noodle soup and it was one of the best noodle soups I’ve ever had. We also got the beef pho, which was excellent. Looking forward to coming back soon!
