Our inspiration comes from Nellie Jonas, Kevin Jonas Sr.’s grandmother, who lived in Belmont until she passed in 2011. Nellie’s family remembers her as an incredible cook and a gracious hostess who focused on simple, fresh ingredients and on making people feel at home. Her biscuits were always perfect, marvels Cecilia Lucas, Nellie’s daughter. And they didn’t just taste good; they always looked so pretty.
Southern cooking, plus cocktails & beer served in an industrial-chic setting with a rooftop bar.

Everything about Nellie’s was GREAT!! We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We could tell the manager was very involved and helpful. The vibe of the restaurant was great. Our server, Mike, was also amazing and very knowledgeable. He recommended the red velvet waffles when I ordered the chicken and waffles and they were AMAZING!! All four of us couldn’t stop talking about how tasty our meals were (Catfish & Grits, Red Velvet Waffles and Chicken, Philly Cheesesteak, French Toast and Chicken). If I am ever in the area again I would 100% return to Nellie’s!!!

Omg where do I start! This place is so amazing, the food was sooo delicious. We had a party of 5 and we all tried and tasted the different appetizers and entrées and omg, we could have stopped right there. The food is prepared with so much love and flavor. We had the southern rolls, collard and artichoke dip, fried squash, and the butter biscuits for appetizers. We also had the FAMOUS CHEF MARIO SHRIMP and GRITS, OMG sooo delicious, meatloaf, chicken tenders, and banana pudding. Everything was very tasty. Our server James was so amazing and very attentive. The atmosphere was a vibe all alone, and the bathrooms were cozy enough to stay for awhile. This place is a hidden gem, and it was a little busy for a Tuesday night, but that did not stop the service from being a 10/10. I definitely can’t wait to go back. We were also able to meet Chef Mario while he was here from the Las Vegas store! A time was definitely had, Thanks Nellies we will be back!

Delicious southern comfort food and excellent service! We had the chicken dumplings, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, fried chicken and chicken and waffles and everyone was happy with their plate. Our daughter got some crayons and a highchair and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We got a refill of our drinks without even asking.
Love the atmosphere and the service was great. We had no reservation at 4pm and got a table right away.
Free parking available.

Heard a lot of things abt this place mainly due to the Jonas Brothers owning it, so definitely peaked my interest to check out. Had a 2:30 lunch reservation on a Saturday for 3, we arrived a bit earlier and the young ladies at the hostess stand told us we needed to wait closer to our reservation time even though there were plenty of empty seats. So we sat down to the side waiting for them to let us know they were ready for us. We ordered the fried green tomatoes which were delish. Then for entrees I ordered the fried chicken, one friend ordered the burger and the other ordered shrimp and grits. We got and two bites in when the manager on duty quietly came over and told us to remain calm and gather our belongings and evacuate the building to the exit in the back due to some sort of emergency. The few bites I did have, I can say I enjoyed the chicken, greens and cornbread but the mac left a lot to be desired. It was sort of dry and didn’t have much flavor to me. We never got to go back inside due to the emergency but the manager came outside and took everyone’s personal contact info to invite us back for a free meal. I look forward to receiving that communication from them so I can come back and fully enjoy my meal uninterrupted.

I like to mention it when service is outstanding; so our recent trip to Nellie’s was a great place to give a shout out.
First the menu had great options including gluten free which was a great surprise. Its roots are in southern cooking especially great chicken dishes. My friend had fried chicken on a bed of mashed potatoes with collard greens. I had chicken and dumplings with collards. By the way the collards were fresh and well seasoned — just delicious.
But the service was really outstanding. Our waitress Haylie was kind and cheerful. The manager and other waitresses also helped out— delivering water, food and taking away plates as needed. They made certain to check on us multiple times. I felt cared for and the meal was a great comfort food experience. The biscuits were amazing of course. I’ll be back and I’ll try some of their signature cocktails when they have live music in house.

We had THE BEST experience! Made a same day reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We sat at a high top close to the bar and it was the perfect romantic spot and the stools are very comfortable!
Now let’s get to the service, Haley (hope that’s spelt right) was so personable and made our night so special! Even suggested places to check out since we are new to the area 🙂
Now let’s talk food and drinks! The special crab cakes with the sauce was finger licking good! We ordered Chef Mario’s Shrimp and Grits and he himself brought it to our table! So neat! We could have licked the plate clean!
Safe to safe we will be back!! Thank y’all for a great experience!!

FYI: We did mention the service note to the owner on the night of our meal.
I am HUGE Jonas fan so this place was the only place in NC I had in my list while passing through. It was not too busy and we were seated when our whole party arrived (3). Our server male A (not disclosing whole name) was a little too close for comfort in personal space when chatting. He was kidding around about me being a fan and it got old quick when he was pretending Joe Jonas walked right in. We ordered drinks and A made a comment. I ignored it not to “poke the bear” but my friend seemed off. I asked her and she heard him say the same comment when he delivered her drink and another drink to the next table over. While delivering/ordering a purple alcoholic drink he called it the roofie drink
It bothered my friend and it was hard to move on from the incident as it was toward the end of our meal. She kindly spoke to the manager on duty and he seemed to know who we were talking about, referring him by name. It was a smidge concerning knowing he knew who we were talking about.
With a restaurant connected to the Jonas fan base of predominately women, I find it disappointing that this behavior is allowed in the workplace and this restaurant. I hope this server does better and understands a man or anyone referring to a woman that their drink calling it a roofie drink is unsafe as many woman have to be alert for this very thing which can result in violence against women.
Other comments:
The atmosphere of the live music and the Jonas memorabilia in the back is a lot of fun.
Food: Our favorite was the fried green tomatoes. Thought the chicken and dumplings, okra, and greens were too salty. Cornbread wasn’t what I expected as it wasn’t very sweet.
I listened to a podcast with Kevin Jonas Sr., who said that they some of the staff are also Jonas fans which I remember sharing to my table. I hope to think that if we had a different server our experience may have been better.

I’ve been waiting to try this place for a while and I was in Belmont taking care of business so I decided to grab some lunch here. Upon entry into the restaurant the hostess was very friendly and seated me immediately and my server was just as friendly , Hailey. Only thing I did not enjoy the food at all. I ordered the fried catfish it was piping hot fresh but not an ounce of seasonings. The cornbread was hard as a rock but that’s how they make it or what I was told. I will try again because everything else was good!

We were visiting Belmont while in town for my husband’s work. We tried Nellie’s for dinner and loved it!! Our server was very attentive and the food was amazing!! We had the fried okra for an appetizer, I had the shrimp Cajun bowl and my husband had the shrimp and grits. We will be back if in the area again!

Loved eating here! The fried green tomatoes were amazing and I just about licked the remoulade off the plate. The grilled chicken sandwich was just average. There was no sauce/dressing so it was a dry. I also wasn’t a big fan of the thick-cut red onion on it — too overpowering. My mom said her catfish (not pictured) was very good, mild in flavor, and well seasoned. Waiter James did an excellent job, was attentive and gave good recommendations. The live guitar music was a nice touch (would have been nicer if it were the Jonas Brothers, ha)
