I had such a wonderful dinner at Namoo Korean restaurant in Marina Del Rey with my son.
From start to finish, everything was perfect
We started with the kimchi pancake, and it was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had, pancake was golden crispy on the edges (my favorite part) and full of flavor.
The marinated spicy pork bulgogi instantly became one of my favorite dishes. It was tender, savory, and perfectly seasoned. The kimchi stew and fluffy steamed egg were pure comfort food, and the marinated short ribs were juicy, tender, and absolutely delicious.
The service was excellent warm, attentive, and welcoming.
We truly enjoyed every bite and already can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommend!
My grandma, sister, and I all decided we wanted to come get Korean bbq for my sister’s birthday and im glad we did because this was delicious!! It wasnt very crowded because it was a Wednesday and we came around 4:15 which was around the opening time. The center the restruant is in was beautiful and the interior was gergous! The music was great with a lounge vibe which had me swaying along. The waitresses and waitors were very kind and attentive explaining every dish and making sure we were all well accommodated.
The food now on the other hand was amazing! The starters were very yummy and we tried every single one! We also got glass noodles (my favorite dish) scallion pancakes, and dumplings! For the dumplings though we didnt know they were going to be fried, but regardless they were still great! For the meats we had chicken, beef, and marinated pork! Our favorite was the beef, though they were all good. We also finished it off with a crepe cake for my sister’s birthday and that was great! My grandma said it was delicious with the fruit bit with the cake.
Overall everything was great and I really want to come back and try more things on the menu! I loved everything about this place and left a good first impression on me. Will be back again!
We ordered Course Combo A for 2, kimchi fried rice, dumplings, and the soybean paste stew. The meat was great quality, our server cooked the meats for us perfectly the entire time, and we left really full and satisfied! While the banchan might not have been as thorough/traditional as some spots in Koreatown, the flavors were still authentic and solid.
The ambiance inside was also nice, bright, and modern, making it the perfect spot for a date night (it’s also right next door to AMC!!) or celebratory meal. Parking was also super easy and free in the structure.
Overall, if I am back in the area I would definitely come back.
Tips:
Free parking in parking structure.
Accepts credit card
Serves alcohol.
Great for big parties and date night.
Reservations on Open table
Indoor and outdoor seating available.
The place is elegant and classy and clean; not the greasy, smokey AYCE places with loud music.
Since this was our first time here, we ordered the set dinner for 3-4 persons. It was perfect for the 3 of us. I prefer “quality” vs “quantity.” The smokeless grill did not leave our hair and clothes smelling like BBQ. The wait staff cooked the meats to your liking. My son and I like medium-rare and my wife likes medium. They cooked each perfectly.
In addition to the 7 or 8 cold side dishes, you get 3 hot side orders: steamed egg, Korean savory pancake and cheese and corn, all served burning hot, so be careful.
The 4 meats, in order, were Beef Brisket, Namoo house special Boolgolgi, Ribeye steak, and my favorite, marinated beef short-rib (bone-in.)
They also have a similarly price 3 wagyu course, but they were out of 2 wagyu choices. Besides, you won’t get as much meat if you go with the wagyu, even though it’s the same price ($188 vs $187.) I don’t understand the pricing. Still, we thought $188 was the right going price for quality KBBQ on the Westside. $12 for a large bottle of Sapporo lager.
We moved as requested, but it was apparent the explanation wasn’t accurate, all the side dishes were already set on the tables in that section, and within ten minutes, another party was seated exactly where we had been. This indicated a lack of organization and transparency.
Our server did not greet us or provide any form of welcome, proceeding directly to take orders. From there, the service flow was disorganized: appetizers and drinks arrived during the main course, and our water pitcher was left empty for an entire meal.
The food? The Beef Short rib was burnt, plain and simple. The Bulgogi was a mountain of onions with barely any meat, like we paid for a side of onions with a sprinkle of beef. The rice wasn’t even included, which is wild for a KBBQ spot.
When we requested additional side dishes, we were told it would take “10–15 minutes,” despite observing other tables receiving theirs at that moment.
After a series of issues throughout the meal, we asked to speak with the manager, Martin.
The overall environment of the employees appeared tense, with their ear pieces and staff seemed overwhelmed.
When Martin did address us, he offered an $11 discount on a bill exceeding $100, despite the burnt food, poor service, and overall negative experience.
I’ve been to Namoo several times before, including for my birthday, but this visit was significantly below expectations.
It’s clear that management does not prioritize customer satisfaction or the experience of returning guests.
In summary:
• Misleading seating process
• Poor service and communication
• Burnt food and low meat portions
• Delayed sides and drinks
• Minimal accountability from management
Save your time, your money, and your appetite.
