Mumtaz Mahal is one of the oldest fine dining restaurants in Muscat serving the best North Indian food, since 1984. Mumtaz Mahal got its very name from Queen Mumtaz, who was the chief consort of Emperor Shahjahan, the famous Mughal king who built the statuesque Taj Mahal in her name. Every detail within the restaurant- from the delicious food to the very ambience within this palatial restaurant reflects a feeling of royalty and grandeur. The iconic restaurant is perched on top of a hill overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Oman and the green beauty of the famed Qurum Park on one side with the unmatched view of the beautiful city of Muscat on the other. As a flagship restaurant of the Ajit Khimji Group of Companies.

For those who enjoy Indian and spicy food, this is a great choice. I loved my butter chicken — rich and flavorful — and my partner’s Gold Tasting Menu was a fantastic way to sample many dishes. Prices are reasonable for the quality, though not the cheapest. I’d definitely go again and bring any guests visiting Muscat.
As a local Muscatian, I find it hard to justify the cost for what’s offered. This is a one-time-visit kind of place, more suited for business entertainment than a go-to dining spot. Sorry, folks, but I can’t recommend it—there are better options out there for the price.
Good luck.
The ambience is beautiful making it perfect for family dinners, celebrations, or a special night out. The service has always been warm, attentive, and professional.
Mumtaz Mahal remains one of our top favourite restaurants in the city. Highly recommended!
We were welcomed with complimentary Masala Pappad and Aloo Bonda, which were absolutely delicious, especially when paired with their homemade Tamarind and Date Sauce. The Butter Chicken and Madras Chicken Curry were both excellent, full of rich and authentic flavors. The Chicken Biryani was also delicious and a must-try.
For starters, we had the Malai Chicken Tikka and prawns, both of which were amazing. To finish off our meal, we enjoyed the Date Cake with Ice Cream, Gulab Jamun, and Rasamalai—all were scrumptious.
Keep in mind that the price is on the higher side.
Overall, Mumtaz Mahal delivers an outstanding culinary experience with top-notch service. Highly recommended!
