While there’s no happy hour – prices were reasonable. We started with the veggie tempura and spicy edamame. The edamame was delicious, the veggie tempura was okay but the sauce was lackluster, needed more flavor.
We then had the King Salmon nigiri – 10/10 was fantastic!! Highly recommend. We also had the Jenny’s delight; one of the best “specialty rolls” I’ve had in forever! Can’t speak highly enough of that one. We also had spicy tuna – which was decent.
Overall – we will definitely be back to try more things! Don’t sleep on this one. They deserve more attention!
After we received our menus and glasses of water, we were ready to order. However, the waiters were also busy attending to takeout and phone orders, which slowed down the service. We had our kids with us who needed to be entertained, so we asked for the wifi password, which the staff kindly provided.
Despite the wait, the food at Mikado was definitely worth it. We ordered the shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura, and they were both delicious! The tempura batter was light and crispy, and the shrimps and vegetables were cooked to perfection.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Mikado, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Japanese cuisine in the area. The only downside was the slight delay in service, but the food was definitely worth it. We will definitely be back!
MUST HAVE –> Spicy garlic edamame and hamachi chili/crudo. Both were really excellent. The edamame was enough to almost fill me up without paying a bunch of money. The crudo was really fresh and light — I like the pop of slight spiciness from the small peppers.
EH (don’t worry if you miss these) –> 16 piece sashimi platter and Kanpachi sashimi. I’ve recently had sashimi at Tatsumi, TenTen, and Uchiko — this doesn’t compare at all. The sashimi is clean and fresh, which is great but there’s no creativity. It’s straight fish. So if you’re looking for straight-up fish, this will suit you well. The Kanpachi sashimi was a special for the day. The texture was weird. The fish didn’t have the “bite” of fresh fish. It was gummy and even stuck to the roof of my mouth. I’m not sure if this is the typical texture but I wouldn’t order this again.
I hope Mikado gets a makeover or gets more customers. I think they have potential but the space is starting to look more like a storage facility. When you first walk in, it’s a bunch of plants in the corner and knickknacks around the hostess stand. It’s not a good first impression.
Hottie Susan roll wasn’t that spicy, rather tame actually,. Liked the riceless option of Austin roll. Cheesecake looked great and not heavy.
