It was a pleasant, spur of the moment stop while we were down for some appointments and needed to kill time. Food was good and service was friendly. Looking forward to returning on our next trip.

I have been hearing some very bad things about mama Lola’s food and restaurant and all I have to say is hog wash. I have had the opposite experience. Staff are very friendly and Manny is the sweetest person I know. The restaurant is always clean and the food is really good.i remember the first time I went in and our waitress was not doing a great job. Manny remedied this very quickly and did right by me and my family. She provided training for this new waitress and allowed her to try again. The second time this young person waited on me was top of the service. Manny cares about the people who work for her. Manny hires the underdogs and gives them a good job with livable wages. She loves people. I love Mama Lola’s and I am thankful for another option for dining. Shame on those disgruntled ex employees who were not dedicated to their jobs and only cared about a paycheck. It’s too bad that grown people feel the need to hurt good people. God bless Miss Manny and her family for putting up with the lies and rumors.

When this place was a food truck it was delicious. Our last experience dining in, not so much. The place had only one other couple in there when we were seated. The floors were filthy the tables were ok but not super clean, the bathroom didn’t have a trash bag in the bin or working soap. To top it off we waited a hour for cold food and all I got was a basic cheese quesadilla and husband got a regular beef taco, both cold. Why a hour for cold food? Plus my quesadilla had hard ground beef that seemed like it was on the counter for days. Instantly turned me off from finishing my food. The margarita was all sugar syrup too not much alcohol & prices don’t reflect the prices on the menu so don’t expect your bill to add up from menu prices. We really wanted to love this place but because of our recent experience a few weeks ago we will not be coming back.

I normally don’t give a long-winded review like this one is going to be but since you replied and requested more information in answer to my previous review which read
“Gave this place a second chance…big mistake. This is a long way from the Mexican food that I have come to enjoy.”
I appreciate that you responded and I am aware that it is difficult to keep a small business going. As I said in my review this was our second visit. I was excited when we heard that a Mexican Restaurant was opening in our area and since spending many years in Arizona we developed a love for Mexican Food. On our first visit, two days after you opened, we were less than pleased but chalked it up to the fact that the staff and cook were new.
When My daughter suggested we give you a second chance I was reluctant but went anyway. I realize everyone’s tastes are different (hence your five-star reviews) so in answer to your question about what was wrong and what we ordered let me explain. There were five in our party and when asked what to drink there was only one Modela available. Not heart-stopping but disappointing as we wanted the full Mexican experience. While the others watched me drink the only Modela they could not eat the tortilla chips that were stale and the salsa was tasteless.
We wanted to order beef tacos but were told there was no beef, at this point we should have just paid up and left but because this was a second chance we opted for chicken. The tacos were mushy and the chicken was cut into tough chunks which neither my wife nor I could eat. My daughter ordered a vegetarian fajita that was so burnt that she did not eat hers. My son-in-law (who wanted a beef burrito) also chose the Chicken Grande and again could not eat his. The fifth in our party ordered chicken enchiladas and managed to eat all his.
I have to tell you that we have been eating Mexican food for many years in restaurants all the way from California to Maine. I have read your explanation of how there are many different styles of Mexican cooking and while I agree that there might be some specialty dishes in different areas things like tacos, burritos, and fajitas are fairly standard.
I only hope that you can somehow improve and stay in business, but I’m sorry to say I have to give an honest review.

I’m beyond excited about this place. Went for lunch on a Tuesday. Was offered a variety of Mexican beers to start and served complimentary chips and salsa. Chips were slightly stale but the salsa verde was delicious and authentic. Ordered the Tuesday special which was out of this world: 3 barbacoa beef tacos that just melt in your mouth – tender meat on hot, soft, fresh-made tortillas and the most delicious beans and rice on the side. Left full and so happy with huge compliments to the chefs. Can’t wait to go again!

Manny and the Mama Lola’s crew provide the best Mexican food in Northern Maine. The food is good, the atmosphere has a great vibe and the staff at top notch. Don’t pass this up if you are visiting Downeast!!

4* for chimichanga plate, delicious with rice, refried beans and queso. However the complementary salsa and chips, NOT. Salsa was pure water and no flavor at all, tortillas were fried greasy. But they are free so just pass and be ready for the main meal, we’ll worth it. Try to change salsa tho. Bottled is better than this. Seemed like the liq after it being strained. Will go back for the plate tho.

So I’m the owner and I’m reading the reviews for the first time and I see that there is a review, most likely a disgruntled former employee that figured he would hurt our business, but I am Also reading some reviews stating that it is not authentic food. There are many areas of Mexico that make the same food differently and I assure you that all food is fresh and cooked daily, all food was prepared and taught generation to generation by women that were raised and lived in Mexico, so to say or question its authenticity is kind of baffling to me bc these are the same recipes that they used and they lived in Mexico! If you don’t like it or are used to something else, please just state that, we are a small business and we are a family run business and for words to be unkind and cruel is not ok bc these small businesses are trying to survive during a recession and are trying to provide the best product we can. So please keep that in mind for ANY business you review. Be honest, but honesty does not mean lying or completely being unkind because you were dissatisfied. Thank you and to those being honest and not hurtful, thank you and we will try to do better as this is the forum that we look to for improving our service, food, prices, etc. FOR THE RECORD, We have been through 2 health inspections and have not had any finding of wrong doing or recommendations for improvement. It is public record, please see for yourselves. Two clean inspections and we will continue to strive for excellence. Thank you! Thank you for visiting and at least trying it for yourselves once. That’s we ask for and we look to better serving our customers.

They ripped us off charged us $66.50 for a carne asada torta & a half steak & half chicken cheesy melt & a pineapple margarita & a skinny can of corona beer & three diet Pepsi’s after asking the waitress if $3.50 was a good tip she gave us $3.50 change out of $70.00. I suppose $3.50 tip was received as an insult and our being non Maine’er’s they charged us an exorbitant price gouge for not being from here
