Menomale’s on 12th Street is easily home to the best pizza in the metro area. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels authentic and welcoming. The staff are incredibly attentive and eager to serve; they know every single item on the menu and are happy to guide you through their pizzas, appetizers, and specials with genuine enthusiasm.
The atmosphere is small, warm, and homely the kind of place where the cozy space actually adds to the charm. It feels less like a restaurant and more like a neighborhood gathering spot where great food and good conversation come together.
What makes Menomale’s truly special is how easy it is to turn a simple meal into a memorable experience. Between the exceptional pizza, knowledgeable staff, and inviting setting, it’s the kind of place that keeps drawing you back again and again.

I’ve heard great things about Menomale and it did live up to the hype. My wife and I went in to order take out. They have a very detailed menu with plenty of options so it took a while to determine what we wanted. It would have been nice to have some images associated with the menu but nevertheless when I saw the brick oven I knew what I was in for. My wife just wanted a pepperoni pizza so the host explained that it is possible, just a small deviation from one of the items on the menu. The food took about 10 minutes to prepare. I can’t lie, my wife said this was one of the best pizzas she’s ever had (prior to our visit her favorite pizza was Andy’s). The verde calzone was fantastic as well. You can taste and tell the authenticity of their food in each bite. We visited south of Italy a few year ago, Palermo, and might I say the quality of food at Menomale matched our pizza experience in Italy. I will be back to this spot.

Absolutely delicious Neapolitan pizza that amazingly does not weigh you down after eating a whole pie! It’s like magic. You can taste the quality ingredients. Place is family friendly, but small inside. Get ready to get cozy with the table next to yours and maybe even make new friends!

I have been to both locations of Menomale, and this location and spot was really special. I went to this location on my son’s birthday, and we really enjoyed every moment! My son had the Verdone Pizza, and I had the Quattro Formaggi Pizza, which were both delicious. The staff brought a surprise dessert to end off the night; it was very nice spending time at Menomale.

Menomale DC is hands down one of the best restaurants in the city. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a cozy neighborhood vibe that makes you feel right at home. The staff is friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do — they go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience.
The food is absolutely incredible. The wood-fired pizzas are perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that make every bite burst with flavor. The pasta dishes are just as impressive — rich, authentic, and clearly made with care. And don’t skip dessert — the tiramisu is heavenly!
Whether you’re here for a casual dinner, date night, or just craving authentic Italian comfort food, Menomale DC never disappoints. I can’t recommend it enough — a true gem in the heart of the city!

I’ve ordered pizza here a number of times and the experience swings drastically. I always get the Diavola. Twice the pizza has been great! Another time the pizza crust was burned but the dough somehow still raw – I asked them to put it back in the oven and got an attitude.
Additionally, wait times can be quite long. Last time I visited, I waited close to 45 minutes for dine in service. Overall decent but think they need more consistency.

Atmosphere: A little whole-in-the-wall pizza shop with a giant pizza oven. They were able to give us an inside table on a super hot day. I think that they have 5-6 tables inside and about 8 outside, so call ahead if sitting inside is a high priority for you. Because it was so small, it was a little loud, but I was able to talk to my family comfortably.
Food: I’ve never been to Italy, but my partner who has, said it was on point. The food came out super fast, and it was delish. My family got a few pizzas, and everyone enjoyed theirs.
Vegetarian/vegan/plant-based: They said that they could make any pizza vegan, so I ordered something with lots of veggies. They did a nice vegan cheese and I give it a 5/5.

Very impressed! The crust is outstanding. Both the traditional and the mushroom and sausage were very good. The service was outstanding. The only miss… The bruschetta was under seasoned with salt and balsamic glaze. Other than that, it’s a five star.
