Not sure when this place stopped being Meizhou Dongpo and became Xi Bei (seemed overnight) but it’s now the latter and in soft opening. I always thought the staff was very professional and nice, and they still are. The menu now has fewer items but still a lot of options. Feels like they are experimenting on this front. Most importantly, we liked going to this place for the roast duck (half order), and that’s still available. We also enjoyed the honey mustard shrimp. We appreciate that there are a number of dishes you can do just half orders.

This restaurant serves the best duck I’ve ever tasted. Crispy skin, tender meat, and rich flavor cooked to perfection. Every bite was unforgettable. If you love duck, this place is a must-try. Easily one of the best dishes I’ve had anywhere.

I came here to say this is probably one of the best Chinese food I had in a while. First, the servers and waiters were very professional and passionate. Second, I have lived in LA for 2 years and have tried many places but this place, the food was scrumptious. The duck was warm and crispy and it came with the pancakes. The shrimp fried rice was a decent portion. The classic dong po pork was the perfect amount of tenderness and the meat and fat ratio was exactly what I needed. Their seafood was another huge thing I would recommend because their crab was live crab, the meat was so fresh and had a sweet taste to it. Lastly, the sweet and sour fish was a huge portion and we didn’t finish it but it was so good we packed the rest of it to go. I would 10/10 recommended to friends and family. Price may be high but it is definitely worth it.

PS the atmosphere was very artistic and historical.

The dishes at this restaurant continue to maintain an impressive standard. The seasoning of the “Sliced Beef with Chili Sauce” is precise, with a perfect balance of spiciness and flavor that leaves a lasting impression. The “Spicy Chicken” features a crispy exterior with tender, juicy meat, blending crunch and succulence flawlessly. The aroma of the “Hot Chili Oil Poached Sliced Angus Beef” is intoxicating, with tender and smooth beef that bursts with rich flavors in every bite. The “Mongolian beef ”and “Black Pepper Angus Beef” are equally unmissable, showcasing expertly selected ingredients and masterful cooking techniques, turning each dish into a feast for the taste buds.

It is one of the better restaurants in the mall.
Food quality are above average. The taste is almost authentic.
The price of the food is average compared to other similar restaurant.
If you go there for the first time, the place is a little hard to find.
They are located in the courtyard on the second floor. There is an entrance to the courtyard before Macy’s department store.

Recommended for the Peking Duck.

Table side service was expertly done. The duck was fresh and crispy, cooked to perfection. The accompanying garnish and sauce were superior, well cut veggies, thick sauce, upscale sugar.

The other dishes were fine, but not excellent. We had the black pepper roasted beef, which was slightly overdone and not fully trimmed. Still quite tasty.

The greens were good, but not cut as finely as they would be for highest quality, and the seasoning was just a bit heavy.

Roasted eggplant was sweet and spicy and delicious while piping hot.

The Jasmine tea was good quality and went brilliantly with the duck.

Service was friendly and flawless.

Our party agrees that the best way to enjoy this restaurant is to splurge on the duck, and get a side vegetable. The other options are fine, but not at the same level as the duck.

Came in with a party of 10 on a weekday.

Not as busy as we thought it would be. The food itself was alright, but I would say for the pricing listed, it could’ve been slightly better. Probably wouldn’t come again as this is a family style orient restaurant and the food quality is only slightly better than what I can find outside for a 10-20% reduce pricing.

I would say, if you want to eat a nicer meal with a good ambiance, give this place a try once. Maybe you’ll find it better than me.

Edit 9/5/22: still wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re going for the signature dish. The duck, if you order more than one way of preparation seems to use other people’s duck who only ordered one way of preparation. This would mean that your other duck dishes are someone’s leftovers, in a sense.

We enjoy Meizhou Dongpo Restaurant. The ambiance is very nice. This time the food was just average. The sir fry pork dish seemed to have tough meat. I expected tender pork. We will definitely return and try something else on the menu.
