Social Profile:

Mauka Makai, located at The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas, is a culinary experience celebrating the farming and fishing culture of ancient Hawai’i. Ancient Hawaiians drew their sustenance-physical and spiritual- from the land and sea around them. Seafood provided the primary protein in the Hawaiian diet, complementing staples such as taro, sweet potato and breadfruit. This sets the stage for Mauka Makai – toward the mountain, toward the ocean.

Breakfast for 8 was easy here. Wait was minimal, service was quick and the food was great! The best part was the kids having their own menu that was basic and traditional, nothing over the top that overwhelmed the picky eaters. Views are great and the tables are properly spread apart to avoid bumping into each other and the staff. Prices are relevant to any local breakfast joint but better than your average resort price. You can enjoy mimosas as early as 7am which was a great starter for the day! Room charge was the easiest option for us.

Excellent breakfast and a great view of the ocean. They have a chef it seems, when Covid hit Hawaii most chef’s left the restaurants and replaced with line cooks. Also excellent service, prices but that Maui

Very good breakfast with a view. We enjoyed the French toast and smoked salmon bowl. The staff was friendly and helpful. Gave us a tip on where to get the best malasadas in Maui.

We ordered several dishes and all of them was over expectation. Perfectly cooked scallops, potato brûlée was wonderful. I wouldn’t say no to more lobster in the lobster noodles but what we got was delicious. The drinks was good balanced and the service was good.

Breakfast was as amazing as view of ocean! Avocado toast and Breakfast Bento were INCREDIBLE! Guarantee you will not find anything this good on the whole island for breakfast! Ingredients are incredibly fresh with an amazing creative culinary touch! Visit to the hotel is worth it too! Design and atmosphere are amazing! Best cup of coffee entire week on Maui!

Your basic hotel breakfast. Had a big juice menu that they couldn’t make. Very small menu and only open 7 to 10am. No lunch or dinner

We had three exceptional meals here. This included two dinners (one was the buffet) and the champagne Sunday lunch. Food is very tasty with a lot of seafood and salads. But the breakfast buffet isn’t good. The servers are lovely.

Wow, what a letdown. Went to Brunch about 1:15 PM, and the buffet was pretty picked over. It appeared that everyone working was counting down to close the buffet, but they were supposed to be open until 2:00 PM. Some dessert and side items were not stocked well enough to accommodate us ‘late comers’. There was also very limited supply of salad and/or fruit and dessert items. Other items on the hot side that were suppose to be fresh made, were dry and unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber (Lobster Mac). Breakfast consisted of Scrambled Eggs and Cheese Blintzes, with some Sausage and Potato dishes that did not look appealing enough to even try. Plus when I went back to the hot side selections, someone had already pulled the signs telling which items were in which pans (this was before 2:00). The Poke bar had a nice variety, but all the items were very bland and flavorless, and had a sticky texture. The octopus was too tough to eat. The Crab legs had one claw left and a lot of smaller pieces, but we managed to enjoy what was left. As far as bottomless mimosas, it was hard enough just to get two. We also had to ask for crab utensils and wet wipes, which should be given unsolicited. When I arrived to the carving station there was no one there, so I helped myself to a piece of Prime Rib, which was already sliced. The chef/cook arrived shortly thereafter and gave me a slice of Salmon. Quite frankly, having only two items at the carving station for Sunday Brunch is very disappointing. In fact the selection overall for the entire buffet was dismal for a cost of $50 per person. I have gotten better food and better selection at my local Hometown Buffet. Save your $50 and eat elsewhere on your vacation.
