The atmosphere at Maude’s is pleasant and the coffee here is pretty good. They must have strange hiring and retention practices, because the service is hit or miss. We were told we could be served in ceramic mugs and we ordered coffee. The order was brought in paper cups. When we asked about this, we were told they can’t provide that service (ceramic cups). I’ve been here previously and they ARE able to provide this service and have done it for me in the past. When I pointed to some cups hanging behind the counter, I was told that all of them were “dirty.” Lol, then why are they hanging there and not in the sink? So, it seems clear this person was simply unwilling to wash a cup. Which I understand. Who wants to do that? But at least just own it and say you don’t want to. They also were not busy. It would be understandable if there was a long line, etc. or if it was close to closing time. The service here has been spotty for years (I’ve been coming for decades, since college), but after this last issue with whoever the shift manager was (or whatever) I won’t be back. The coffee here is good, but it’s not worth being treated poorly and being denied service you were already told you could have.

I drove 45 minutes from Ocala and was not disappointed. This place was recommended to me by a coworker. I loved the atmosphere! I came alone to do some work but would love to have been with friends and played a board game! I ordered the Maude’s iced coffee and I went into the backroom, which was a bit quieter. They have free wifi and every table has an outlet! I was super productive, and I credit that to this cafe. For lunch, i ordered the “fancy quesadilla” and a red velevet cupcake and stepped outside to enjoy the nice seating area. Yummy. If I find myself in Gainsville again, I will stop back by.

I’ve been here a couple of times.. honestly, the atmosphere is rather unwelcoming or neutral. It seems like a popular student hangout, but I haven’t been a student for some time so I don’t really find the atmosphere appealing. I think the seating is rather cozy although somewhat noticeably limited when ordering food, there are these implicit rules of when they’re serving. What dishes? And you wouldn’t really know that unless you were a frequent customer. I ordered a smoothie here once on a hot summer day and it turned out pretty well. For the parking hassle combined with unfriendly staff interactions, combined with hyperactive student chatter, it’s just not interested in visiting regularly if at all.

Not for coffee lovers!!
Really cute place with plenty of indoor seating and outdoor patio seatings available. Plus with plenty charging spots for indoor seating!!
The coffee I got was…sugar syrup…we ordered two vanilla lattes and one had twice as much sugar as other…clearly lack of consistency on part of the Baristas. I think—if you are lookikg for a place specific for coffee like we were (there are better options within Gainesville such as Pascal’s or Cympplify)—but as a package if you are also looking for food options, this has a great selection. Overall, good vibes and atmosphere, not so good coffee. Will come again to try their breakfast menu when Im hungry!!

It’s okay I guess. The inside can be a good spot to study and the outdoor seating is cute. But the coffee and hot chocolate were mid. Hot chocolate was $7 and tasted like milk and a tiny dash of Swiss Miss powder.

There is no way not to absolutely adore this quaint coffee shop. It’s located in the Sun Center Easr adjacent to Gainesville’s historic Hypodrome Theatre. It’s across the street from Starbucks which is nationally known. But keep strolling past that famous place if you want better food, coffee and ambiance. Even the prices are better. I purchased coffee and multiple pastries last night so when I wake up early the next morning I’ll be able to sit on my terrace overlooking Maude’s and relax knowing I’m lucky to have shopped there. Great food, delightful wait staff and a cozy interior that will make you want to sit and relax.

Prices change depending on who is serving you. I don’t have an issue with paying, but I absolutely have an issue with paying $2.58 for a canned soda when I actually seen them charge someone else a little over a dollar for the same exact thing.

Not really a nice experience for me. The benches inside are really small and not comfortable for studying for a long time. Also, it is kind of dark inside. Worth to mention, you need to ask for the password for the rest rooms and walk a bit by leaving the shop to find them. Check out the yard, though. It is cool and you feel being downtown.
