It was our first time here. We were seated in a booth near the window We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, which was delicious. I ordered the Brunswick stew and my husband had the steak and eggs.

My stew was just what I needed on a cold day. And my husband’s steak and eggs were cooked perfectly.

We also ordered desserts. I had the creme brulee and my husband had the pecan pie ala mode. Both desserts were excellent.

Our waiter was Oscar. He was very attentive and gave us our refills as needed and checked in on us often. He was very conversational and friendly.

The tavern was still decorated in Christmas decor and I was it was so beautiful and festive. I was so happy to be able to catch it before they took it all down.

We will definitely be back again.

When you want a true experience in Georgetown, go to Martin’s. I have never in my life had such an incredible experience at a restaurant. The food was impeccable. The espresso martinis were amazing. The service, well I can tell you right now being in the hospitality industry, it was five star. Don’t miss this restaurant. Amazing.

Great vibe and food. Recommended by a friend.

The oysters in the soup are plump and fresh. The cream is a bit salty but goes well with the bread.

Fried green tomato is really fun. My first time. Meaty and juicy like fried oyster but more refreshing. The batter is well seasoned too.

Excellent shepherd pie. Lamb aroma is strong. Better than most ones I had in Britain. Golden cheddar appreciated.

Calf livers are tasty, though it’s definitely not medium. Not tough. The bacon slices are well cooked. Many beans, which is nice.

The side asparagus is surprisingly big and robust 🙂

Most prices are decent for such establishment (except for the fish and chips haha)

Food came fast. Alcohol takes a bit more time.

Food is good and restaurant vibe is very cute. Lobster risotto wasnt on the lunch menu but the kitchen was nice enough to accommodate. The only reason I am giving a 4 star instead of a 5 is because i do think the food, as good as they were, were a little too pricey. A plate of appetite – 4 tiny crab cakes should not cost $21. I came here expecting the lobster risotto to be $56 so I will let that one go but a lunch meal when we only ordered a side salad, an appetizer and a risotto should not be costing $110 total. A heads up for any first time comer here – they automatically charge you a non optional 6% operational fee which they claim “helps to run the restaurant with minimum wage” so tip accordingly. Other than the price point, it was a pretty nice restaurant to hang out and the staff were also very friendly.

You cannot live in or visit Washington, DC without experiencing Martin’s. It’s one of the most amazing places in the city. The food, history, service, and people are exceptional. All the booths from JFK’s proposal one to Nixon to Madeleine Albright are unique and so cool to sit in. If it’s your first time visiting Martin’s definitely make a reservation – even getting a spot at the bar can sometimes be difficult. They always have beautiful seasonal decorations. Perfect for all occasions especially celebrations!

We are in DC visiting relatives who suggested Martin’s Tavern. I am so glad they did. It’s a top tier restaurant with outstanding service. I would suggest having it on your restaurants to experience list when in DC.

I also discovered it dates back to 1933, is family owned, and holds a tremendous amount of history. We ate at the Harry Truman booth. They advertise that all the presidents from Truman through George W Bush ate there. I learned all of this from Solomon who has worked there for 27 years.

I had a hamburger at Martin’s Tavern this afternoon. It was a full 1/2 pound and it was excellent.

The service was excellent, and the portions were quite generous.

The one strange thing on the bill was an operational fee of 6%. I asked two different servers what this was for and they could not explain. A copy of the bill is attached.

I feel that it would be more appropriate from a customer satisfaction standpoint that they just increase the prices of everything by 6% rather than having a 6% operational fee attached to the bill.

Martin’s Tavern has been around for many years. It is a lot of fun to sit in the booths which were used by presidents and other famous luminaries. They even have have places where they sat at Martin’s Tavern labeled.

The food was fresh and quickly delivered, cooked to perfection (fish was perfectly pan seared, fish and chips as well, beef served as ordered).

Service was excellent.

But the operational fee was a surprise, 5-6% it is quite a lot and unexpected.
We have been visiting the place years ago, and cannot remember this fee.

It was fine overall, servers were pushy (expected trying to turn quick tables after new year/holiday push) food was okay. Burger was alright. Potato skins were the best thing we had hit the table. Onion soup was a little light consistency.
