I think an important preface is necessary here. We have had amazing brunches here in the past. However, our first time here during dinner service was more middling. Some of their seasonal offers were excellent. But service (busy) and the main dishes were not quite up to par. Also, some items on the menu weren’t consistent with what was advertised. The atmosphere and the clientele were both vibrant for this neighborhood. Perhaps that’s the confusing part about this particular experience. The Mandolin is an important thread in the Raleigh culinary scene. My hope is that they haven’t grown complacent to the fanfare. 3 1/2 stars*

The strawberry bisque was delightful but the steak we got was raw in the middle and not warm enough to melt butter on the outside while also being medium well on the ends. Not sure how that is even possible. The oysters were great. The chocolate souffle was not bad but not incredible. I will say the staff was really friendly and helpful and saw the quality of the steak and offered to send it back but we had time constraints. Regardless not the flawless experience I expect out of a $200 dinner for two.

The place is nice aesthetically on the outside and inside. The hostess was friendly. We were sat and our waiter came over and poured us waters and took my drink order while my husband went to the restroom. We told him (Claude) that we weren’t ready to order so he came back after like 2 mins. He took our order and then dropped a basket of biscuits off, which were the best thing about the place. He dropped off breakfast promptly and left without asking if we needed or wanted anything further. We did want a ramekin of ketchup for our home fries. While we waited on that, our home fries got cold. He never came to check on us, and then someone else cleared our dishes. The next time he appeared to give us the check – no thank you, no asking us if we wanted dessert or another mimosa, nothing! Lastly, he came by with his hand held card machine and took payment and was outta there. Nope, we will not be back! First time and last!

Great meal though they had an off night with a quite slow kitchen. Hopefully their new staff get up to speed quickly (puns intended), as the food and service are some of the best around.

What a great little place. The service amazing and people were super friendly! The atmosphere was great (date night!). The food was amazing! I had octopus to start and the special, soft crab on Farro (the sauce was so flavorful and unique and we loved it!). Knowing how great the food and whole experience was, I think next time we’re going to try the ribeye. Can’t imagine how great that’s going to taste (mouth watering!)

Going to be honest, we were extremely excited to try Mandolin because of all the raving reviews we saw online. I always put something in my reservation if it’s our first time there, and also put that we were celebrating Valentine’s Day early, so this was a special occasion. We arrive at the restaurant and the hostess sat us in the middle of the room. I have a dairy allergy so I got the omelette but subbed the cheese for mushrooms. She let me know a substitution was $2 extra. When we got the biscuits, she immediately let us know that each additional one we got would be $1 extra. There was one for each of us at the table. Our waitress maybe checked on us 3 times throughout the whole meal. She had no table side manner and really honed in on the cost. Never once asked us how we liked our meal or if we were okay. I had to flag her down to get some condiments for our food. It was $65 for two mimosas ($10 each), an omelet with no meat or cheese, and a country breakfast that comprised of one scrambled egg, 2 strips of bacon, 2 pieces of toast, and he added 2 pieces of fried chicken on it. The food was okay, but not stellar. For the prices, you can find better quality elsewhere with better service. To top it off, they gave us the wrong bill at the end which was $90+, and only until I said “it went through” after she told me “no I cancelled it” she ran back and had to recorrect it. The whole dining experience lasted 45 minutes. Such a shame we were so excited to try out a Raleigh staple.

You guys let us such a great night and memories. We try different things, Cesar salad, beets salad, pasta, meat, desserts and everything was very good. With a very nice concept, and also with a very good kitchen, the ambience is very elegant but at the same time zero pretentious which make us feel very comfy. It’s good to go to a very good place without feeling obligated to dress super nice just to go eat, I very much liked the concept farm to table you offer and I can say all food was very good and excellent quality. The wine we tried was also very good. Service and employees were very kind and nice! Thank you! I would like to upload more pictures but some dishes couldn’t make it to the picture because they were delicious!

Great service and food! Our waitress was great! A lil surprised they were somewhat empty for a Friday night based on the amazing meal and ambiance that we experienced. We started with the octopus, amazing, loved the pickled mustard seeds! The panzanella salad which I wanted a touch more dressing but everything tasted great. Don’t get me started on the lil cornbread muffins . However, the star of the show was the fried chicken! So moist and juicy, prob one of the best I’ve had in Raleigh. I didn’t love the waffle but I didnt need the carbs anyways . Also, the greens and mushrooms were tasty too. We ended the night w the chocolate souffle which could have been a touch sweeter but was nice and warm, like a mix between and lava cake and brownie. I will definitely be back!

A very elegant and simple restaurant to enjoy with your friends, spouse and family. The food was fresh and delicious and our staff was very accommodating. Parking can be tight in their adjacent lot but another lower level lot is available as well as street parking. My wife and I shared the gazpacho and BLT salad. The vegetables and fruits are locally grown and super fresh. Our entrees included the grilled chicken leg and a pasta dish. Both were wonderful. We ended our meals with two delicious desserts (chocolate souffle and caramel cake). I’ve visited Mandolin on two other occasions and was just as satisfied. It’s not a large restaurant so make reservations to ensure a table, especially on the weekends.
