My family and I have passed this restaurant hundreds of times and finally had a chance to stop in, and we’re so glad we did! We ordered the flautas, chicken quesadillas, steak tacos, and cochinita pibin. Everything we ordered was delicious, but the cochinita pibin was definitely the highlight of our meal. The pork was tender, tangy, and packed with flavor… My 9 and 7 year old made sure nothing was left! For dessert we had the churros and pineapple upside down cake. Both were absolutely delicious, not a crumb was left. The food was amazing, the staff was attentive and very friendly. It was a great way to start our evening, and we’ll definitely be back!

Came here on Valentine’s Day with a reservation, there were three of us, one kid. It was full of families, some couples.

The had a tasting menu but we opted out of it.

They give you a complimentary spicy trail mix.

We started with the guacamole, it was okay. Then I got a traditional margarita, my partner got a pina colada with strawberries, and my kid got a pink lemonade (Marz Brewing made).

The margarita was good, not strong but not too watery.

For dinner I got the chicken fajitas, the waiter asked if I wanted just chicken which I though was odd because I ordered the chicken fajitas and I wasn’t sure what he meant or if he meant no veggies, it came with veggies luckily. It also came with tortilla, corn, and a side of refried black beans with cojita, and rice. It was all okay.

My partner got the lamb mole, it was sweet and savory, not spicy. And it came with tortillas.

They have a lot of mole options, so if you’re into that definitely come here to try!

Overall it was just okay.

If you are looking for an exceptional Mole, this is your place. It’s prepared at the restaurant, they even offer mole cooking classes. The place has a great vibe, it’s very spacious and the music and the decoration add on to the experience.
It was hard to decide but we end up ordering, the Ceviche, the Mole Manchamanteles, the Callos with Mole Verde and the Molcajete. What a feast guys! This was one of best meals of this visit to Chicago. The Margarita (with Mole) was not second to the food and it’s prepared in batches every time they run out, so it’s always fresh.
They are many Mexican restaurants in the city, but this one is nexts level!!!
They also have a small free parking lot on the side of the building. The service is also outstanding, keep up the good work.

The King of Moles, the Chef and owner, did a class for 10 of us on mole negra. It was fabulous. The mole had 28 ingredients and we made it in flavor layers. We then had a dinner of chicken breasts with the mole we made. Spectacular. Also made lime tartlets and red rice two drinks and we were in heaven. The staff was very attentive and friendly. GO THERE. Thank you Chef Bahena!

Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully executed, and our Mexican friend felt the flavors were genuinely authentic—more like a tour across different regional Mexican styles than a generic “Mexican” menu. The standout for me was the Tamal de Huitlacoche: unexpectedly on the sweeter side and surprisingly delicious. The space is large with a great atmosphere, and we left very full and happy. Way better than I expected and i would like to come back. Tried 2025 Christmas pre-fix menu 85/person.

It is rare to find a true authentic Mexican restaurant of such good quality. The service was 10/10, but the food blew us all away! From the drinks, to the appetizers, to the mole, everything was fantastically delicious. Homemade tortillas is also a huge plus for me and these were so delicious! The only dish that was not a huge hit with one of our party members was the Chiles en Nogada because they have a twist and are made with pork instead of the traditional beef, so “the flavor was off”. Aside from that, the mole was fantastic, we really did manchamos nuestro mantel, and everyone left with a full belly.

I went here for a birthday dinner after being recommended and the food was incredible. I’ve never tried mole before and we had the mole trio to start and the more we ate the more we couldn’t decide which was our favorite. We each picked very different dishes with different moles and it was great to see another side of a cuisine we love. Margaritas were delicious and our server Fernando made the dinner extra special for us! The chef even came out to say hello and ask our favorites and we saw him helping to bring food out to other tables. This is a great, small business and I highly recommend giving it a try.

Lived in area 3 years and finally decided it was time to settle the beef of the two joints right next to each other. Been missing out for 3 years, no beef…just barbacoa

Atmosphere: 10/10 upscale Mexican taste with corner taqueria vibes. tv on walls, multi colored flag banners hanging from ceiling, huge amount of seating both inside and out. friendly, large amounts of staff. Parking was easy enough on western and side streets are plentiful if you parallel park

Dos Equis Lager with Lime: what ya need after a long week served quickly and crisply

Ceviche: the white fish was perfectly doused in the vinegary/citrus mix you come to want from a ceviche. added touch of thiccc strips of avocado and orange made the martini glass arrangement even better. honestly a lot of fish and was def meant for more than one person. flavor of sprouts added makes the flavor more veggie but in a good, unique way.

Chile En Nogada: star of the show without a doubt. i thought i tasted cinnamon in this walnut cream sauce but it might just be that sweet!!! I’m a HUGE chile relleno guy and this felt like i was somehow eating the healthier version (without cheese) while also indulging on the sweet sweet nectar of the gods in the form of a self made corn tortilla taco. Meat was just tender enough to damn near melt with the sauce and pepper was the perfect vegetable vessel to deliver the pure sweet relief i didn’t know i needed 10/10 if you don’t mind sweet/savory, don’t waste your time with anything else (though i’m super pumped to try everything else)

This was our first time visiting Manchamanteles and it’s a nice experience. Since we had never tried mole before, our server kindly brought us small samples of the three different mole sauces.

The Chile en Nogada was quite unique — sweet, nutty, with plenty of meat inside the pepper. The chile itself wasn’t spicy at all. Personally, I found it a bit heavy after a while, but my boyfriend loved it.

The real standout for both of us was the grilled octopus with avocado appetizer. The octopus was perfectly smoky, and tender, while the avocado salad had a refreshing sweet-and-sour flavor, like it included some kind of fruit. Combined with the crispy corn chips, it felt like something from a Michelin-level chef. Absolutely delicious!

I also really enjoyed the Camarones de Lujo. The shrimp were perfectly grilled without any fishy taste, and the black bean rice was so flavorful and rich that I could eat it on its own.

Portion sizes are generous — the three dishes we ordered were more than enough to fill us up. Prices are definitely higher compared to some other restaurants, but the flavors and quality are worth it.

A fun extra: they even offer cooking classes for mole, which shows how much they care about their culinary tradition.

excellent food, warm service, and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend if you want to try authentic and creative Mexican cuisine!

This is my go to place for when guests come to visit because everyone is always happy with their dish. The flavor profiles are wonderful (my favorite dish is the Enchiladas Potosinas with the wonderful Jamaica or Horchata but I’ve tried multiple dishes), the staff are very kind and knowledgeable, & the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The pictures on their website are what dishes actually look like & I keep going back! 🙂
