I was told to come by on Sunday because that’s when they have the most food and choices, and I’m hoping to do that soon.
My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Mama T’s in Dothan, AL yesterday (10/12/2025) for lunch, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this experience!
The food was nothing short of incredible! My wife ordered the oxtails and rice with candied yams, greens, potato salad, and mac & cheese – every single bite was perfection. I went with the hamburger steak with rice and gravy, squash, and mac & cheese, and it was hands down some of the best soul food I’ve ever had.
Mama T proudly makes everything from scratch, and you can absolutely taste the difference! The love and care she puts into every dish is evident in the flavors – authentic, homestyle cooking at its finest. The portions were generous, the seasonings were spot-on, and everything was cooked to perfection.
What makes this place even more special is Mama T herself! She was right there in the restaurant, taking time to speak with each and every customer who walked through the door. Her warm hospitality made us feel like family, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her guests and takes pride in what she serves.
If you’re visiting or passing through Dothan, you MUST treat yourself to Mama T’s. Be sure to check their hours of operation before you go – this gem is worth planning your trip around! We’ll definitely be back whenever we’re in the area.
Thank you, Mama T, for an unforgettable meal and experience!
We were driving around looking for great photo ops…this mural caught our attention.
We spoke with a very engaging man that was busy controlling the smoker/grill…he’s a Master!!! He gave a back story about himself and the business and it was obvious he knows a lil something about the restaurant business. He ushered us inside and pointed out the staff and their likeness in the mural on the wall. We decided it was time to eat, even though we had eaten a large breakfast only mere hours before. It was time to let Mama T’s jerk us, as the sign mentioned.
We got the jerk chicken, beef patty, yams, okra and greens. We also got a surprise sample of the curried goat, OMG!! . They have salt/pepper, Crystal and Trappey’s on the table, but they really aren’t needed because everything is perfectly seasoned.
I wanna give a shout out to the young lady that was nice enough to let me lust and drool over her tomahawk pork chop. I know you had a huge smile on your mouth while enjoying that.
All of the staff were so friendly and had great vibes. They were so happy and shared their smiles with everyone. When we return for another visit we have our tummies comforted that we WILL return.
The food was absolutely delicious. The food was served cafeteria style. Mostly everyone ordered a meat and two sides. Personally, I ordered the oxtails, macaroni and cheese, the collard greens/cabbage mix and a side a chitterlings. The oxtails were hearty and tender. Then the sides were just as amazing in taste. I didn’t know what to expect from the collard greens/cabbage mix but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Other options they had were curry lamb chops, jerk ribs, baked chicken, hamburger steak, lima beans, yams and a whole lot more.
I would highly recommend trying it out if you’re lookin for some great soul food!
Also, it’s more like a grab and go with a few tables. Definitely worth the visit.
