We’ve been itching to try Malinche for a few months now, and did not disappoint. Its a hidden gem in west county for deliciously crafted tacos. We went for a double date night with friends. Made a reservation since its a smaller space. The decor was organized and exciting with Spanish culture. Beautiful and creative wall art. But best of all, the food was delicious! From the complimentary appetizer, to the chips & dip, and finally the tacos. Everyone at the table got 3 tacos. The hand crafted cocktails made everything go down that much easier. The bartender was working as the waitress as well, and did a phenomenal job.

CONS: They only serve smaller food portions. It’s also pretty expensive for those small plates. Bathroom was out of soap and toilet paper. Aside from the open sign, the windows are completely covered with a white covering/sheet that makes it look kind of sketchy from the exterior.
OVERALL: I would be back for a snack and the drinks, but not for a full meal.

It took several weeks of attempts before I was able to get a table in this restaurant. It definitely did not deserve the hype. I am actually shocked at the number of five star reviews this restaurant gets. I’m sure I look like that one reviewer that is never pleased. Please note all of my other reviews. I tend to be very generous with the stars. This restaurant is very unique and I want to leave a very detailed review to anyone considering because it is expensive. The menu is very limited and every single item on the menu had to be explained by the waitress. Every item on the menu is considered to be a “small plate“ which is about the size of a small appetizer, but priced the same as an entrée at some restaurants. The waitress advised that it is appropriate for each person to get three or four plates. Had we listened to her advice we would have had twice as much food as we needed. We got four dishes total for two people, and it was more than enough food. While the menu items are unique, I felt very limited in my choices. No vegetarian options unless you order off the menu. The ceviche was unique and spicy. The Mole, which the waitress described as their signature dish, was the worst mole I have ever tried. I generally love mole. Our waitress was extremely high energy, but totally inappropriate in her timing. She kept trying to clear plates while we were eating. She would ask us how we were doing every few minutes constantly interrupting our conversation. I assume she is used to being busier. The potato flauta was delicious, but too expensive for one French fry sized fried tortilla. We attempted to come here several times on weekends, but found that a reservation is both necessary and difficult to get. However, we were able to walk in at 6 o’clock on a weekday and found the restaurant to be empty. The storefront makes it look creepy and uninviting. Once inside, however, the ambiance is kitschy and appealing. The margaritas were delicious but extremely watered down and overpriced. Overall, we felt this meal was entirely too expensive and the waitress definitely negatively impacted our experience. I gave three stars because some of the food was good but the restaurant concept just didn’t work for us. The small expensive plates and confusing menu did not make for a fun night out as I believe it was intended. Overall, if asked for a recommendation, I would take time to explain this restaurant in detail. You have to know what you’re getting into and be prepared for an unreasonably expensive night out for Mexican food. (Which is usually much more affordable)

Not sure how I missed writing a review of this place before the pandemic but visited for a birthday and loved it as much as last time.
Tapas-style & size these days. Less about the entree and more about the parade of 2-3 bite portions of really interesting, elevated Mexican food.
I know their menu changes regularly so no “you gotta try” recommendations but definitely a place to check out if you haven’t been. My best bite of the night on this visit was the lamb birria. How in the world did they pack so much flavor into that thing?!?
Note: they remodeled and I think have fewer tables so reservations are a must.

Definitely make reservations! Very nice intimate space. We brought our toddler but she was the only little one in the whole place. Which was fine, they have a kids menu and sippy cup lid. We enjoyed the tapas style menu. Would visit again! Staff was very informative and made many recommendations.

This place is so delicious and cute! Atmosphere was chill, and we didn’t realize we needed a reservation for a Tuesday so they kindly let us sit and eat at the bar. The food was fantastic. We ate lots of tacos, cheese dip, rice and beans, and churros and didn’t have one bad thing. Highly recommend!

I always want to visit this restaurant due to its unique style and high Google reviews. Since it is located in a strip mall, there are plenty of parking spaces. The restaurant is small, so it is highly unlikely you can just walk in without reservation. I got my reservation through Yelp. They got 1 table, 6 bar chairs, and several booths in the restaurant. They had a limited selection for their menu. We ordered Campechano, Flautas, and Del Trompo. We also ordered salsa for our chips. They started with a small complimentary potato appetizer. The campechano was flavorful and had a nice presentation. Flautas included 2 small corn rolls. The chicken inside was dry. They gave me 3 mini tacos for Del Trompo. They were pretty salty. The amount of food was miniscule. The salsa I ordered was very salty. We decided not to order any more due to our disappointment. Before I paid for my bill, I noticed they charged me 4% extra if I paid with a credit card. I was not quite happy with their overpriced food and still tried to nickel and dime you to death for credit card charge. Overall, it costed more than $60 for 3 tiny plates of food.

Probably one of the easiest 5-star reviews I’ve made in awhile. The food was delicious and the service was amazing.
Don’t expect run-of-the-mill Mexican fare – these are composed, tapas-style dishes made to share.
I won’t do any of the dishes justice by trying to tell you about them in any detail. Just know they’re delicious.
The menu changes every 6 months and in Mondays they have a street food menu, and Tuesdays they have taco specials.

WOW. My husband and I have never had “elevated” Mexican food before, and true to their claim, it was absolutely a culinary experience!! I could taste the notes of flavors playing together harmoniously from the salt, acid, fat, savory and sweet in each dish thoughtfully prepared to create a sonorous medley that transcends what you’d typically expect from your standard Mexican cuisine. I find with gourmet food I tend to eat slowly to experience all of the flavors dancing on my palate rather than shoveling it in (which has its merits too, especially with comfort food).
We had the Quesabirria, Mole, Flauta De Pollo, Chips w/guac, salsa and queso (Botaneando), and Del Trompo. They even gave us a complimentary Flauta each at the beginning of our meal. They were all absolutely wonderful! And the service was top notch! Our waiter was super friendly and helpful, and the food came out of the kitchen really quickly (though it was 9pm on a Friday night when we got there so it wasn’t terribly crowded). They are also located in a shopping area with plenty of parking. The check came to $63, before tip, which is not bad at all considering the quality experience, and we were pleasantly full.
The two words that come to mind when I think of Melinche is, “Elevated Experience”. If you like Mexican cuisine, I highly recommend you treat yourself and let your taste buds enjoy the ride!

An elevated experience in Mexican cuisine. We’ve dined twice, both on Friday, which is a tapas menu. All the selections were outstanding. We especially liked the Diabla poblano and Del Trompo. Reservations are suggested as seating is limited.
