There were many classic dishes and chefs specials in the menu. I tried the MacKenzie meatloaf coming with bacon, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. It tasted okey but the sweet bbq sauce was too thick for me. I also ordered a takeout pineapple pizza. The pizza was baked freshly with sweet pineapples, but the balsamic glaze was also too thick and sweet for me. There were happy hours, lunch combos, and special events. Anyway, this restaurant was not a great place for Buckeye games.
The problem was the food. It was not good at all. 2 of us ordered the fish and chips. Both orders were completely overcooked. I ate one piece. I couldn’t even eat the rest. I finished off the fries and coleslaw which were both decent. But the fish was horrible. Another person ordered the Mackenzie alfredo. It was not good either. It looked and tasted like it came out the freezer and was thrown in the microwave for heating. 2 people ordered the wings, which were just ok. My son did give good feedback on the Grizzly burger and said that it was good. My 10yr ordered the pasta w/ meat sauce from the kids menu and she said hers was also just ok. I wanted to try somewhere different than my usual go to spot and unfortunately I was extremely disappointed in the food quality. Oh! We did have the Lodgepoles as our appetizer and I will say that they were good and probably the only thing we truly enjoyed there. The pesto that comes with them was super yummy! Overall, the food quality was poor, but the server was nice.
Thank you so much for giving us such great service that allowed us all to bond and have a great time.
When we first arrived, our server asked what we’d like to drink and then immediately asked what we’d like to eat for our entrees, and after we said we needed more time, he took a while to swing back to our table. The restaurant seemed pretty busy, so I can understand. The issues arrived when we placed an order for cocktails and our appetizer. Our appetizer came out incorrectly. When we ordered our entrees (a burger and salad with grilled chicken), they came out and we still didn’t have our cocktail. Mind you, we had placed our cocktail order 20-30 minutes before. I reminded the server of this and he returned with a pretty warm cocktail. We finished our food and waited some while longer and asked for the bill, and when it came out, there were inconsistencies. We asked our server why the grilled chicken we added was double the price on the menu, he said the chicken we selected was different but he’d get it changed to the posted price. After fixing it, he set the bill down on the table, cashed us out, and that was the end of our experience.
This time was much different than previous experiences I’ve had at the restaurant. I’ve only had positive things to say about this restaurant as the servers, waitstaff, and management have always been beyond friendly, but our server seemed indifferent, inattentive, and unapologetic about the mistakes made throughout the night. An apology truly would’ve solved a lot of issues for me, but the fact that I felt like I had to be the bad guy Karen and inconvenience him to get the things we ordered was odd and out of character for Mackenzie River.
We had a great selection of food and all of it was good. We had chicken rolls (excellent), tortilla soup, a polanesian pizza (abundant and good), a wedge salad, a chicken sandwich and fries.
Sad to say the female who sat us was less than friendly. The waiter pushed as soon as we sat down and we hadn’t even looked at the menu yet. I had to practically beg to get a beer?! No desserts were suggested and this was a birthday gathering. Not the end of the world but our bill pushed $100 for 3 of us including a tip.
