The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such …

Awesome dining experience! Myself, my teenage, and his friend came here super hungry after our night snowboarding session at Appalachian Ski Mountain and they did not disappoint There had been an ice storm this weekend and it was still snowing in this area. Many other restaurants are closed, but this one was open for us.
When we walked in, my first question was to make sure they served families and they welcomed us with opened arms. The staff was incredible and the food was delicious. We ordered a few appetizers and meals and I have two delicious cocktails and a draft beer. The menu was extensive and had a tons of options for all types of diets and cravings. We nice and warm left with full bellies.
Highly recommend!

Macado’s in the App Mountains is amazing! The food is always fresh and packed with flavor, and the menu has tons of great options. The sandwiches are huge and delicious, and everything comes out fast and hot. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel welcome every time. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, making it a perfect spot to eat. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I visited here while on a mini vacation because it was recommended. The restaurant was extremely understaffed. One poor girl was hosting, waiting tables, and even looked like she was attending to the bar. The menu looked great and looked like there were many things to choose from but I decided to go with a classic grilled cheese sandwich and fries. I mean who doesn’t love an ooey gooey grilled cheese on a chilly day in the mountains? Well if you do, DO NOT get one from here! I honestly was shocked she brought the sandwich to our table with the way it looked and there was 2 of them because a 3 year old wanted one too. I have never seen such an awful grilled cheese! It was 2 pieces of toast with burnt cheese on each side pushed together. See pictures please! Needless to say, me nor the 3 year old could even stomach to eat it. The waitress was nice and apologized and took the meal off my check. I honestly felt bad for her! The other 2 adults with me said their food was okay, but overall was not a good dining out experience. Hopefully that day was just a fluke(about 3 weeks ago) and they have since gotten some more help and taught a new cook how to make a grilled cheese.

take the rating as a WARNING. we wanted to try out this place regardless of the 3.8 star review, but you’d be better off going to a different sports bar. I get that this place can categorizes itself as a “sports bar“ but some of their TVs don’t even play sports??
The biggest problem with this place is the food AND the service. We went in on a Sunday where they have a special of 39c wings, good deal… bad wings. I don’t mind having to wait for food (especially since we had a group of 7), BUT ALL of our food was cold. Like it had been sitting out for a good while. I can only blame it on the server because she seemed to be absent and unattentive. The table next to us had an absolutely amazing server, but we just got the short end of the stick I guess. Most of our drinks went out by the time we even saw her again, and I had to go TO THE BAR to get a refill. Picture attached will show just how long the wings sat there before they got to our table. Definitely super disappointed and highly do not recommend this place.

Great service and they have the kitchen open very late and the food was delicious. We went very late after an all day skin looking for food and it was a great choice and they had a lot of TV to watch football games we seat at the bar and the bartender was very helpful, kind and fast

Really good food and drinks everything we’ve been here. Service is good even on busy game day weekends. The only drawback is the men’s bathroom by the bar, the door is difficult to lock and the plumbing isn’t always working.

The owner of this establishment should be ashamed. I have never seen so many unbussed tables in my life. The bar was lined with dozens of empty drinks. The employees were doing the best they could, there simply were not nearly enough of them. There was an empty beer bottle in front of us when we got there, it was still there when we left 2 hours later.
The food was OK, mostly. Our artichoke dip took so long to get to us, the melted cheese had re-solidified. It and our salads came out about 10 minutes after our entrees, bizarrely.
Look at all the other reviews over the months and years, stating this place is severely understaffed. Owner, do not give me this “we are shortstaffed, please be patient” BS. You are shortstaffed on purpose, with the purpose being lining your pockets. Greedy.

We had the Annie Oakley sandwich and the fish and chips. The sandwich was packed with meat and the toasted croissant and tasted really good. The fries were good but the fish was a thin slice and seemed to be frozen and reheated. There were no customers in the place because we were so early. They only seated in one section which didn’t have any low tables. I understand keeping the sections separate but that early with no customers it would have been nice to seat my father-in-law in the table that would fit him better. Large bar in the middle. The waitress was very nice.

Macado’s is absolutely amazing! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is fun and welcoming, with a cool, unique vibe that makes it a great place to eat. The menu has a huge variety, so there’s something for everyone, and everything I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. The sandwiches are loaded, the fries are crispy, and the portions are very generous. On top of that, the staff is friendly, fast, and always makes sure you’re taken care of. Whether you’re going with friends or family, Macado’s is a fantastic spot that never disappoints. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We waited an hour for spinach dip and boneless wings on a slow night. The service was slow, the beer was flat, and the boneless wings were raw. Like, they were quite literally pink all the way through. Save yourself the time and avoid this place.
