Social Profile:

The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such …

Came in at 6:33pm. Took nearly 15 minutes to be acknowledged after being sat and watching the eventual server half clear another table…slowly. Order was taken and shortly after a 45 minute wait (7:37 pm) the food was brought. The burger was supposed to have a fried egg. The photo is the egg that I removed it because of the rubbery, overcooked consistency. That is my finger poking the egg and it not tearing. The tots I had ordered ended up being fries, but heaven knows I wasn’t sending anything back or asking for a replacement. I might have gotten it for breakfast. We’ve eaten here a number of times with mixed reviews, but never have I had this kind of experience.

We arrived for lunch at 1230ishpm and ordered our drinks. Took a few minutes to look at the menu after our drinks had arrived. I ordered a cup of coffee which while there was never asked if I’d like another cup. We sat there waiting for our waitress to return for 30 minutes after getting our drinks when I flagged her down and rudely was told she’d be with us in a minute. She took our order in which we also ordered an appetizer. The appetizer came out 20 minutes after ordering (potato skins). Then she brought our actual lunch 10 minutes later. I could see that it’s a managerial problem scheduling one waitress to a whole section. My Asian salad (menu stated mixed greens) and it was cheap iceberg lettuce. My friends ordered a buffalo chicken wrap which was delicious and my other friend the Diablo quesadilla which was also very good. I honestly don’t see us returning to this location until I see better reviews about the service. We even second guessed going this time due to the two star review we saw ABOUT the service but gave it the benefit of the doubt. I think the management staff needs to either hire more people, staff accordingly or step in and help your wait staff (or all the above).

Tuesday night, party of 10. Waited 1 hr 15 min for food. Dining room was cold. Burgers and sandwiches, people. Come on man. However, when food finally arrived it was HOT, bountiful, and excellent! Waitress was responsive and prompt on
refills.
But Im sorry, if you can’t provide clean restrooms for customers and employees, then you have failed to.provide a dining g experience worthy of the high price of eating out.

Since Macado’s turned the old public library where our kids once frequented, we loved the overall decor and what was done to make it inviting. That said, the overall experiences upon each return is rather drab. Nothing stands out that really makes you want to go back other than there aren’t tons of options to have dinner or drinks with friends and families. The overall cleanliness was poor and service was very slow. After arriving just past 7PM we didn’t leave until after 9:30PM. It was busy, but two and a half hours was a bit much. The restrooms weren’t much better than a truck stop too. This may be our last visit to this Macado’s.

A good place to get a bite to eat. The decor is definitely something to look at as it is retro and has some of the local sports memorabilia. The food is tasty and the prices aren’t too high considering the high cost of food inflation. The Carpetbagger sandwich I had was delicious and just enough to fill me up.

Absolutely a great experience. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted and seated. Our server was Ashley who took good care of my sick wife by giving her an old school remedy idea. And it worked. The food was perfectly prepared and the steak was very tender. Kim runs a tight ship and got an excellent crew

The food took a bit to come out but it was good. A ton of choices, you could go back over and over again and get something new each time.

Myself and my family used to go there when they first opened. I’ll be honest wasn’t good at all and after a few months we stopped going for a long time. The service was horrible as was the time we had to wait for our food. It didn’t matter how busy it was or when we went there. Waiting 45 minutes or 2 burger platters is insane!

About four months ago my wife and I decided to go and give it another shot. So we went in there for lunch and seated right away. We had a great server…she was fast and proficient and checked back on us frequently.

The food was the best I’ve ever had there as was my wife’s. We met the Kitchen Manager Ms. Kim came around to our table and asked us how everything was and we spoke to her for a long while.

When she’s there the food comes out fast…it comes out looking great, taste amazing and is accurate to how we order it. She’s very nice to talk to and we’ve seen her several other times over the last few months that we’ve started going back again.

It’s like the place is totally different now then what we’ve experienced before we stopped going there. I’d safely say because of her you’ve gained back our business.

It’s not easy these days to find a person like her and a Manager that runs things properly and makes sure the food comes out of her kitchen looking great.

The service has even improved dramatically. I’ve been in the food service industry half of my life. I know the importance of being able to turn tables quickly. It’s the difference between the Restaurant making money and losing it.

If you hire great people and pay them a little more it’s going to pay off for your business in the long run.

My family will keep coming there and hopefully continue to see Ms. Kim because she goes out of her way to take care of all of her guests when she’s there.
