This Uwajima-style sea bream rice really surprised me. The fresh slices of raw sea bream are mixed with a raw egg and a special sauce, then stirred together with warm rice. The first bite is soft and delicate, with a gentle sweetness from the fish. The sauce brings out the flavor without being too salty, and there’s no fishy taste at all. Overall, it feels clean and light, yet full of umami — like a comforting bowl of rice with the elegance of sashimi. Simple, but very memorable.

It’s an authentic, local cuisine. Very local. Most of the staff probably won’t know English. Luckily there is an English menu but it isn’t inclusive of all the dishes they serve. I’d look at other tables for inspo.

Really yummy and unique Japanese food. Must try!

You go down a couple of steps to find yourself in front of the entrance, the staff kindly indicates you to remove your shoes and show you to your place.
You are then offered a menu of some of the most unique meals you might have seen.
Fortunately there’s a small explanation in English on how to appreciate your meal.
Absolutely amazing experience for a first trip to Ehime, great service, amazing design and unique food.

Another quick stop on the way. All the menu items were great. Sashimi was good too.

Fried fish quantity was bit small for sharing. Overall, I would come back to try other items.

Strongly recommended to try their Tai Meshi. I was wondering this area trying to find late night dinner and happened to stop by here. I didn’t find out this place is famous for Tai Neshi til a week later lol the dipping sauce was SO good. Very strong bonito flavor so not recommended for people who doesn’t like fishy flavor. The quality of sashimi was amazing and the service was very nice too. I even bought the dipping sauce to take it home. If you are looking for a place to try their traditional food in this area, this place is it

Come here for the local speciality “taimeshi” which is raw sea bream on rice. I ordered the taimeshi satsuma set with extra sea bream. The wait staff were very helpful and explained how to eat the dish.

Best food & nice servers!
I highly recommend this place to try the traditional food of Matsuyama.
Here is located very close to Okaido arcade and you will not miss it if you can find Starbucks. So it will be great if you go here bf or aft visiting the Castle!

Seriously overpriced, generally mediocre.
I was jarred by the constant shouting and running around of the staff in an otherwise high-end feeling place.
The food is nothing special, the quantities are very small, the sashimi was stringy and unremarkable. The Satsuma soup was strange, rather bitter and tasteless.
Nothing stood out to me.
The price is baffling? 2600¥??
Not an enjoyable time.

The restaurant is at B1 but it’s pretty bright and clean, and there is no basement smell at all. The two major dishes are Uwjima style sea bream set and Uwjima style samon set, both demonstrate good flavors and fresh ingredients. Samon set is somehow quite special, as pouring samon sauce, the specially curated cold miso sauce, on hot rice is an unexpected but desirable experience.

The jacoten, also known as fish cake, is served with a hibachi grill and the flavor is greatly enhanced and elevated with the jacoten being grilled to your preference. The aroma from the grill is indeed sensational. Another jewel in Kadoya is the skin-grilled bonito, which is one of the best bonito dishes I have ever tasted. The chargrilled skin of bonito really adds complexity and depth to the flavor of it, and it’s an indeed unforgettable experience that the utmost harmony can be created from the combination of raw bonito and grilled skin.

The service here is also great as we are not familiar with Japanese, and the staff, as well as one of the chefs, all tried to figure out a way to understand our request and made our dining experience here more enjoyable. We appreciate their efforts indeed! By the way, the English menu is provided here so it should not be a problem just ordering your desirable food.
