Windsor Court’s British influence is undeniable, and it’s apparent in every aspect of the hotel, from our décor to our artworks. Perhaps the most obvious tip of the crown to our British inspiration is the traditional pastime of afternoon tea, served Friday through Sunday in Le Salon. Offering a selection of 26 of the finest loose-leaf variety brews, each seating begins with a light cocktail or sparkling beverage, followed by a properly brewed pot of tea, gourmet tea sandwiches, house-made scones and decadent desserts. A harpist or pianist also accompanies each teatime, and throughout the year, we put a New Orleans twist on the tradition with a series of specialty themed teas, from Mardi Gras and Princess to Prohibition and Mad Hatter.
Polished place in the Windsor Court Hotel offering formal afternoon tea with sandwiches & sweets.

After we were done, we waited and waited and waited for our server to come in our direction so we could request the check. Once we requested the check, the server proceeded to another table to chat with people that she knew. This was not a table that she was servicing and she had an extremely long conversation with those individuals, to include sitting on one of their laps. There was an automatic 22% gratuity added which I did not appreciate because we DID NOT get 22% service. To sum things up, I do not recommend the Afternoon Tea at Le Salon.
Sandwiches were all premade and cold (some breads were hard). Scones were dry. Desserts were average.
Tea selections were nice. Good experience, but wouldn’t exactly book again for the price.
Make sure you book reservations at the Afternoon Tea in the lobby (on the right as you enter). It is available on Friday – Sunday 11 am – 2 pm. We made reservations for 1:00 pm to give us some time after the delicious breakfast at the Grill Room at Windsor Court and before we left to catch our plane.
There was live harp music (or piano music), and a wonderful genteel setting with comfortable couches and chairs. The harp music was very special and elevating, since it has been quite a while since I have heard it. I thought the strawberry pattern china and lace placemats were a perfect setting for the tea.
Tea includes a drink (wine, champagne, poinsettia – champagne plus cranberry juice), a pot of tea (menu in the pictures), lovely finger sandwiches (chicken curry, smoked salmon, crab on cucumber, egg salad) and two scones and desserts plus the normal lemon curd, Devonshire cream, whipped cream, and raspberry jam.
The waitress poured refills on the tea.
After all the sightseeing and walking around in the French Quarter and the museums, ending the trip to NOLA with a relaxing, soothing, elegant, and delicious afternoon tea was very memorable.
When we arrived, it was clear that the venue was understaffed, which resulted in long waits for tea and water refills. Instead of the tranquil and leisurely atmosphere one would expect, the staff seemed rushed, creating a busy and stressful vibe. I was surprised to be served my tea in a coffee mug rather than the elegant teapot and cup set typical of afternoon tea. When I inquired about this, the waitress explained with a laugh that two cups had broken earlier that day, and they didn’t have any extras available. I would have expected a place like this to have a backup supply for such situations, as it felt a bit odd to not have enough tea cups for all guests.
Additionally, my water glass was chipped, which reflected poorly on the attention to detail in the service. The staff seemed more focused on chatting amongst themselves than providing the level of service expected for an elevated tea experience. At one point, I noticed bleach bottles left unattended on nearby tables, which added to the impression that the service lacked the refinement I was hoping for.
While the setting is lovely, the overall experience didn’t align with the premium price tag. It felt more like a casual cafe experience rather than a special afternoon tea. Overall, I would have hoped for a more polished, serene atmosphere and better attention to the finer details.
