First time here. I know most people havd steak for dinner, but we wanted steak for lunch today and ordered the 12oz rib eye, even though we were told only the sous chef was in at lunch time (should have known). Well, that was a mistake. The steaks came out dark and greasy, you could tell it was covered with the leftover grease from the grill which probably was not cleaned. I thought the meat quality was good, but the sous chef totally screwed it up, very bad!

Food is good. I asked for no dressing in my salad but it had dressing in it. LB Steakhouse in Santana Row is better.

I wanted to try this but now wish I’d opted for some of the more reliable steakhouses in the same area.

It’s pleasant and has a cozy, dark feel. We were greeted nicely at reception and taken to our table after an odd wait (there were many open tables, not sure what the wait was for).

We had the bone marrow appetizer. Simply, it was too much for an appetizer. It was delicious, the sun dried tomato and garlic jam was perfect with marrow. It was delicious and might have been the best part of the evening.

My daughter had the 8 oz skirt steak and I had the 14oz prime rib eye. Both were ordered medium rare. But were, being generous, medium. The steak was thinner than I prefer and just didn’t match up to similar cuts at other steakhouses. It was good. It was not excellent and certainly not great.

We ordered two sides – creamed spinach and onion rings. I would have liked the waitress to say “maybe you might want to skip the onion rings after the marrow” because it was just too much rich food. The creamed spinach was excellent though. It was lighter than most and was an excellent complement to the steak. It was my second favorite part of the meal.

The drinks (LB Steak’s Barrel Aged Manhattan and the Moscow Mule) were excellent and almost worth the visit alone.

So, in summary, there’s a lot to like. But the meat was not notable. And it is a steakhouse. I won’t be returning – there are too many good choices in the Bay Area.

Ordered the prime ribeye. Served a thin, mediocre, tasteless steak. I have had better steaks at diners for a third of the price. Manager was unapologetic and indifferent. Sent the steak back and walked over for dinner at the much friendlier, more authentic, less expensive Bistro Vida, down the road.

Rating is 5 for food and 2 for service overall – details below.

We tried them for the first time at brunch this Sunday. What we liked: the brunch menu was attractive and creative, and when the food arrived delivered the flavor. Portions were excessive (that’s a good thing!).

What disappointed: even though the restaurant was not busy at all, they did not have everything on the menu. Biscuits and gravy with sausage – no sausage. Someone forgot to make / buy. Bloody Mary with pickled green beans – came with an olive not the green beans. Someone isn’t watching the store very carefully. I really hope these little gaffes don’t occur in the much more expensive dinner service, but one hopes attention to detail is part of their DNA. Worrisome.

Worst of all: in a quiet restaurant, someone was making business calls in the bar – taking loudly on his phone in speakerphone mode so we could hear every word of both sides of the conversations, and nobody on staff said anything. Unbelievable. In casual restaurants here I have had to say something to fellow patrons when they crossed over the line with loud cellphone use. But in a restaurant where the service is supposed to be top notch, I find the lack of action on the part of the staff absolutely incredible. I shouldn’t know what contracts his customer should sign, or what things they should avoid to stay out of trouble. The staff was obviously oblivious to this. I would understand this at the coffee shop down the street – I really don’t understand the staff allowing this behavior in their restaurant.

Should I have complained? I can’t think of any other restaurant priced and positioned like LB Steak where I would have had to. This was more like what I would expect in a dive bar. They need to tighten things up.

Best steak in the bay area. I’ve tried Alexander’s (way overrated), Flemings (decent), and Sundance (only their prime rib is passable), but this is much better. Their sides are also delicious and their servers are very personable. Delicious.

The beef they serve is clearly of good quality. Three stars because I was disappointed by the cook on my steak. I ordered off the dinner menu at lunch so that was probably part of the problem but I wouldn’t expect a steak to be cold in the middle when ordered medium rare.

Long ways to go before it catches up to its sister restaurant in Santana Row. Much of the food was disappointing and overly greasy. The biggest failing was in the dry aged prime rib eye. While perfectly cooked medium, the meat was tough and dry, with inedible bits of sinew uncommon in dry aged beef.

Service, however, was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Hopefully, the kitchen gets its act together soon.

Pluses for consistancy. It’s always a well oiled experience. The steaks are always good. I often use this for business dinners because reservations are easy to come by. Having a burger at the bar is also a fine thing.

Came here with my usual dining buddies for SVRW. Half of us ordered from the prix fixe menu and the rest from the regular menu. For a steak house, I’m confused as to why they didn’t have a steak option for SVRW?

I felt like the food here was more along the lines of 3/3.5 stars but they do have humongous portions that are great for sharing and the staff did try to give us everything we asked for. For the length of time we spent waiting throughout the night, I was also tempted to rate it at a 3. But in the end, they were friendly and did try to go out of the way for us.

Service- Super friendly staff but they are SOOOOOO slow! Our dinner took 2.5 hours because we spent 20 minutes waiting for them to take our order then 30 minutes for our main course to come out. It was also really cold in here, we had to ask for them to turn down the temperature.

Bread-The cheesy pop-over breads they brought out to us were sooooo good. we really had to stop ourselves from filling up on the bread. Bonus points for room temperature butter topped with sea salt. If you order soup, it’s fun to create a mini bread bowl with these.

Appetizers-I’m told the caesar salad here is really good but I didn’t actually try any of it myself; my friend loved it though. I ordered a pate but was not a fan of it. My friend also ordered the cream of asparagus soup, judging from how he sopped up every last drop, I take it that it was good.

Sides:
Twice baked potato-Super tiny but packed with flavor. Yum!
Creamed spinach-Pretty standard
Loaded french fries-These were a special request so props to them for making this for us.
Broccoli-Best broccoli ever! I ate every last one of these at the table.
Potato wedges-these went untouched.

Main entrees:
Beef short ribs- Be warned, these are HUGE. I thought I would get 3-4 ribs. Nope. a platter of 6 arrived before me. They were tender but didn’t have that smoked flavor I love. Plus I got a bit sick of eating them, after the 3rd one.
Filet mignon- A bit on the dry side. The black peppercorn sauce was interesting.
Rib-eye-Not bad but nothing special. Disappointed in the truffle butter sauce.

Dessert:
Pot de creme- decadent, chocolatey gooeyness.
Creme brulee- large portion but I didn’t try any of it.
Pineapple upside down cake – pretty good.
Strawberry and rhubarb crumble – I really liked this but it was a bit too sweet and syrupy with not enough crumble. I would come back for this dessert.
