L’Assiette | PARIS BY MOUTH

L’Assiette is a very classic French bistro from chef David Rathgeber. They’re rightly famous for their cassoulet, which we think is the best one in Paris.

We came here specifically for the Cassoulet for my husband’s birthday and it was perfect. The fish and lentils was sublime and the profiteroles a perfect ending. The service was excellent and the atmosphere simple and cozy.

I found L’Assiette while searching for a place that served cassoulet in Paris, and I had a wonderful experience. I went on a Sunday evening, and felt relaxed and unhurried. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The cassoulet was so delicious, I honestly wished I had a fridge in my hotel to keep the leftovers. The portion was easily enough for 2–3 people, so the price made sense to me and was worth it either way. The server recommended a red wine that paired beautifully with the dish. Unfortunately, there was no room for dessert, but maybe next time. I will definitely be back.

reminds you why Paris is the world’s capital of gastronomy. From the moment you walk in, the team sets the tone with warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful service. Nothing feels rushed, nothing feels forced — just a beautiful balance of professionalism and friendliness that makes you feel instantly at ease.

The food is where L’Assiette truly shines. Every dish reflects a deep respect for French culinary tradition, elevated with precision and creativity. Flavors are bold yet refined, portions are generous without losing elegance, and the presentation shows the kind of care you only find in a kitchen that takes pride in every plate. Whether it’s a classic prepared to perfection or a more inventive creation, the level of execution is consistently impressive.

L’Assiette is one of those rare places where service and cuisine rise together, each enhancing the other. A memorable meal from start to finish — the kind you think about long after you’ve left the table.

Cosy, intimate spot with lovely food and genuinely warm and attentive staff. The soup of the day was pumpkin, and it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere fills up quickly, which says a lot so reservations are highly recommended as the place does get packed.

The restaurant is around 10 minutes walk from Pernety metro station which we got off at to get there.

Everything was perfect. Our best meal in France during our 2 week visit. Service, food and atmosphere were too notch. And wonderful recommendations throughout the dinner. We look forward to the opportunity of coming back.

Not much has changed since our last visit. Cassoulet still more than two should eat, wine still excellent.

Amazing cassoulet, I understand why it is voted best in Paris by NYT. Could use a green salad option or other vegetable options. We tried to order one main course for each person (3) but our server was very helpful in recommending that we split two among ourselves as the portions are very big. The other main we order, braised pork cheek, was exceptional. Every server was spectacularly friendly and nice, food was perfection down to the desserts, the only thing was the atmosphere was not lively as there were only four parties inside- no fault of the restaurant however as it seems like this is definitely a severely underrated place. Highly recommend!

Amazing cassoulet. Huge portion, full of flavor and luscious. Comforting, hearty, and sticks to your ribs. Everyone should come to Paris and eat here and get this dish.
The escargot was super tasty as well. Almost ordered a second round.
The pork cheeks were tender and flavorful. Could have licked the plate clean.
The honey ice cream was home made and a fabulous way to end the meal.
Must go! I would fly back from the US to eat here again and again
