If I could add more stars, I would! My family and I love this place! Definitely a hidden gem that needs all the recognition possible. A small little place with amazing food! The Al Pastor and Steak tacos are so flavorful and the handmade corn tortillas make it all the more better! If you’re looking to try a dessert, might I recommend the Fried Ice cream. So good! Living in a town in Lake County that has plenty of Mexican Restaurants, we have yet to find one as good as Las Monarcas! I’m so glad we stumbled across this family owned restaurant. The owners are so humble and welcoming. I highly highly recommend this place. Provecho!

It was our first time trying this place. There are many great Mexican food places around here and the competition is fears. As we entered in to this place it definitely delivered as it had the ambiance of the traditional small little Mexican town. It had nice murals of small Mexican town. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was very welcoming and engaging with customers. The quality of food was great as they make their own in hose salsa’s from mild to spicy. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 star is because they were not able to customize couple of items as we are vegetarian. THERE IS NO COMPLIMENTARY CHIPS AND SALSA HERE!!! The place is bit pricy as well compared to others in the area for similar food and quality.

This is a hidden little gem! It’s located in the back of a building, but totally worth finding it!!! My boyfriend and I like to go to different Mexican restaurants frequently to try new places. So far, this one has THE best salsa, chips, and guacamole that we’ve tasted! Extremely fresh and clearly made to order, from scratch, along with the chips. Wonderful service and employees, and overall just really great, authentic, fresh food. We’ll definitely go again!

This isn’t even a true Taco place, I went here cause of the good reviews but white people can’t tell the difference between real Mexican food, I had ordered the Mole Dinner which is available on Fridays and my mom had the Burrito I asked if the mole was fresh they said yes, we got our food, the mole had no flavor , tasted like chocolate water the chicken had no seasoning. You can fool a white person but not someone who’s Hispanic, the food was beyond flavorless and disgusting, my mom had the burrito , they never put sour cream in the burrito when it specifically said it came with it.

Our first time here. Small little restaurant right in Libertyville downtown. Clean. Staff wears masks and gloves. We dined inside instead of just doing carry out. They have no outside seating. Server was nice but seemed overwhelmed with 3 tables. I was surprised they don’t give chips and salsa to every table. Had to ask for an order. We ordered 2 of the 3 taco dinners and it was great to customize the 3 tacos different ways. We also ordered some sides that never came but ordered them a second time. Tacos were okay- probably needed to be more seasoned. Fresh Corn tortillas were great.

We visited for an early lunch. I ordered a horchata, sopes dinner with chorizo and pastor, and a Monarcas taco extra. The horchata was passable, too powdery. The rice and beans were decent. The taco was excellent and I like the combo of meat and seasoning. The tortilla from the taco you could tell was homemade. The sopes were also excellent and held up well. The only other complaint I had for the food was the red and green salsas. They looked great but didn’t have much flavor at all. Someone in our group ordered chips and salsa (not free) and those were also excellent, especially the homemade chips! Our food took a bit longer than expected, but was delicious and freshly made.

Okay authentic Mexican food. The burritos were dry and lacking salsa. Additionally they charged $4 for side of salsa and the burritos were SEVERELY overpriced.
