I live in Houston and I don’t get out that way too much. A buddy of mine from Raymondville turn me on to Lara’s Bakery and they are without a doubt the best empanadas I’ve ever eaten. I wish I could find a bakery like that here in Houston. Every time I get down that way I buy about five dozen because they freeze really well. Hopefully going to get down there soon. I miss having a good empanada.

Bread is freshly made, yes. I had the empanadas and was surprisingly disappointed. I hadn’t been here in years and was expecting the same taste that made them so popular many years ago. The recipe must have changed.

I don’t know how we could have missed this local shop, but a big shout out goes out to Agua Cristalina (supervisor Lina) for introducing us to this local shop they truly have the best casera empanadas. They are delicious, soft and fresh!
