I’m very torn when writing this review. The service was great. Really friendly, water glass was always full and food was served promptly. We ordered dan dan noodles and general tso’s chicken. Both had really good flavor.. noodles were a bit too spicy for my liking. Chicken was crispy and perfectly done. Even the side of spicy cabbage tasted fresh and was crisp.

LaoSiChuan’s brand has been around the Chicagoland area for decades and this location does not disappoint if you’re lookin for some sichuan chili action and authentic dandan noodles. Enjoy the beautiful highland park downtown and grab a meal at this family favorite and try something different every time – you probably won’t be disappointed.

I went to lunch with my family on a Saturday. Besides one family we were the only ones there. The entire time there was food preparations next to us at a table (which is fine), and in the kitchen. Now that was annoying! Just pounding noises non-stop an entire hour from the kitchen. The food was pretty bad. The orange beef was the worst dish I’ve ever had in my life. My family too. It tasted like jerkey. We told the server/owner it’s not good, but they still billed us for it. We didn’t even eat it after the first bite. The sweet n sour chicken was good, the wonton soup was good, the egg rolls and pork dumplings were bad.

Best, authentic Chinese food! We stopped by to grab some drinks and check out the area and since they didn’t have what we wanted but the owner was super kind and offered us a free soda just driving by to look at the area for real estate. We are very familiar with this brand of Chinese food and it’s some of the best! Highly recommend

During a recent first and likely also the last visit to this Lao Sze Chuan Highland Park location, I was left feeling disappointed. As someone who is familiar with the Lao Sze Chuan and appreciates Sze Chuan cuisine in general, this particular establishment failed to meet my expectations. While the menu appeared similar to other Lao Sze Chuan locations, the taste of the dishes was noticeably different and did not live up to the standards I had come to associate with this type of cuisine. The waitress who was nice and informed us that the dishes were tailored to local tastes, which, unfortunately, did not align with my preferences. As a result, the flavors and authenticity that I typically associate with Sze Chuan cuisine were lacking.

Four out of five is not a slight! The service was just great, but I really enjoyed their fare, very much. Lalala pot was really good (but could have been a bit spicier). Delicious flavors stacked up, nicely. Definitely a return trip.

The rain was lightly drizzling as we entered the restaurant. We choose a table by a large window and the waiter promptly brought out the menus. After scouring through the large selection of menu items we decided to share a jellyfish appetizer, xiao long bao and a pork ribs dry pot. We were quite intrigued by the jellyfish; it’s texture was similar to the vegetables in the appetizer but it was good nonetheless. The xiao long bao were familiar, warm and juicy. The dry pot is what I was looking forward to the most. It didn’t disappoint; it was dizzyingly spicy, savory and the pork ribs and vegetables blended well. Not recommended for the faint hearted though. If I could change just one thing, it would be to put more pork in it. Overall lunch was warm, well seasoned, filling and a little adventurous even as the rain continued to drum outside. Definitely want to return to try more things next time.

This is NOT Lao Szechuan. I’ve been going to the Lao in Chinatown for over 20 years. I’ve even been to the location in Uptown and Skokie, and while they’re not identical to location on Archer, they’re at least close.

Best food around! We ordered the garlic chicken and chicken fried rice. The garlic chicken had a great flavored sauce with big chunks of chicken and veggies. The fried rice also had big pieces of chicken and had a great flavor.
