I was highly disappointed with my experience when I came here for Valentine’s Day. My partner and I are asian, and the rest of the customers in the hall were white. It was very clear that other customers were being serviced and attended to more often than we were, which was very saddening. We were not offered an explanation of their set menu for the night, nor an introduction from our waiter himself. We were barely offered water refills or checked in on compared to the other customers our waiter was managing.

The osso bucco was very bland and greasy at the same time, contrary to many of the positive reviews of this dish. The smoked mozzarella was also underwhelming, given the raving reviews for this dish as well. The mussels were so fishy, almost like they weren’t fresh or cooked off long enough. Thankfully, our meal was saved by the seafood parpadelle, which we thought was exceptional.

We had to flag down a separate waitress to get our check, and we were not informed of their 3% credit card surcharge, so when we questioned why the bill was higher than what we saw on the check, the waitress stared at us strangely and spoke to us like we were children. Obviously we didn’t have a problem with paying their CC surcharge; it is just common courtesy to inform customers that that is your policy and that the bill will be higher than initially quoted on the check.

This restaurant was well spoken about on Reddit, so it was very disappointing that we had an experience like this. Our meal was not worth $60 per person. I could’ve had a better time at Cheesecake Factory for the food and service we were given. Will not be returning.

First time here tonight. My husband and I wanted to try a new Italian restaurant and we tried this place based on the reviews. The food and service was top notch. We had the smoked mozzarella appetizer, spaghetti with seafood , the salmon special , and the pistachio cream cake. Everything was amazing. We will definitely be back!

Reservations essential with both locals and visitors coming from NYC to eat here.
Excellent service. BYO. There is a lot of culinary knowledge with some of our dishes to a high standard of Italian cuisine. On this occasion, the Osso Buco was excellent. Also the mushroom starter was wonderfully put together and plated. The penne was delightful but oddly, the optional shrimp had half their number burned, one solid, black and inedible. Another conflicted surprise (because clearly the chef is an expert and can put out very good food) was the chicken with mushroom. Looked, smelled and tasted very good but the chicken breast flesh was tough; half was eaten, the rest thrown.
Cheesecake and tiramisu were both expertly created and plated too. So the two shortcomings were very unexpected. There are two very nice washrooms, kept nicely clean.

This place was a tiny little Italian joint! Super intimate seating! We were basically sat in a hallway, my colleague had to duck each time someone walked in or out of the door. Rapidly changing menu, so make sure to ask about the specials. I got the chicken Parm, the piece of chicken was rather generous served over Al Dante housemaid pasta. Very tasty very delicious and went super well with a little bit of Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper. The bill came out handwritten, so you know this is an old-school joint.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very quaint, cozy, and beautiful. However, the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed which caused the service to be lacking. I had high expectations because of raving reviews but, unfortunately, we didn’t feel the service to be warm or hospitable. The food was delicious, but nothing super special in my opinion! Because it’s a regional Italian spot, there’s a lot of mushrooms and seafood on the menu. I’d recommend trying the fungi al forno as an appetizer, as it was pretty unique. The entrees were good, just not mind-blowing. We came to celebrate my dad’s birthday and I asked multiple times for a candle to be put in our dessert, but it was forgotten about in the end.

Beautiful indeed. Going inside makes me feel like I’m truly in Italy, the waĺls, decoration, setup of the tables everything was great. The food is one of a kind and thats what makes this place amazing, the brightness, color and texture is on point. Truly recommend this place for an Italian night. The only thing that sucks is that there isnt any regular drinks so its only wine.

Sat outside on a beautiful September night. We would’ve sat inside but they were full. I did make a reservation two weeks earlier but outside was the only availability. When I went inside to tell them that we have arrived no one approached me. I had to approach one of the waitresses. They told me to choose any seat I want outside. When we chose our seat and sat down, our server immediately approached us and we were off. It is a BYOB. So we chose our appetizers which our server recommended. We chose the grilled calamari as well as the smoked mozzarella. Both were outstanding. Then for our entrées, I choose Asobucco (it was a special.) the veal was cooked to perfection. It fell off the bone. The pasta was homemade and excellent. Would definitely recommend. The other entrée pictured was shrimp and lobster with linguine. It was also excellent. For dessert we chose chocolate mousse cake. It was very good. As far as the service it was very good. My only complaint is that we asked for bread several times before it was brought to our table. Like I said, in the beginning, we sat outside so I did not get a chance to review the inside. It is very small so make sure you make your reservations early. Parking is not easy as well. It is free street parking but not many spots available. Uber if you can. For four people, our bill came to $240.

Phenomenal! This place is an institution, minimal seating. Very affordable for the quality of what you’re getting. Lamb shank on special was incredibly tender. The ricotta gnocchi was great as well. Mussels in red broth were fantastic. The mussels themselves were quality. I appreciate that the restaurant has no “online presence” , just come in and you will not be disappointed. Also BYOB.

On the hunt for a truly authentic Italian restaurant—and after being disappointed by just about every other option—I finally found this place. It actually lives up to what “authentic Italian” is supposed to mean. The flavors and the care in the food truly matched what you’d expect at Nona’s house for Sunday dinner. Highly recommend if you want to experience the closest thing to true Italian cooking in the city.

Absolutely amazing food. Great atmosphere and staff. I had the lamb shank special (I’d try and spell it but I’d do it no justice) in red sauce and pasta. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone just by looking at it.

If you want great food and atmosphere then come here and feast. 10/10 would go back every time I’m in Philly. Skip the chain restaurants that serve fake Italian and come here instead. You won’t be disappointed. Also get yourself a Canoli to finish it off.

Update: was recently back in Philly and of course I had to get some more Italian from L’Angolo. Got the Orrechiette Duck and an awesome Caesar salad.
