Wife and I were camping nearby and I owed her a nice meal out. Booked a table at the Rittenhouse, not sure what to expect. Initially, wasn’t impressed with the menu, but our server (Jack) provided details that encouraged us. We each had great meals. I want to call out the fish chowder – absolutely the best!!! Kudos to Chef Carlos. The $38 bottle of French Bordeaux was an amazingly good deal too. We left, very satisfied with the experience.

My wife and I were traveling up north the weekend of thanksgiving and we did their thanksgiving dinner. It was even better than expect. We ordered as much different stuff as we could and were beyond impressed. Our server Marie(?) was fun and attentive. Highly recommend.

We made a reservation only after confirming by phone that the restaurant could accommodate dietary restrictions (vegetarian + gluten free). The reassurance we received over the phone – and the advertisement of “vegetarian options available” and “We’re happy to accommodate special dietary needs with advance notice.” – were in stark contrast to the actual dining experience we had. The menu had NO vegetarian entrees. One of the vegetarians in our group ordered the pasta – modified to come without the shrimp. Our server, who seemed frustrated with my dietary restrictions, reluctantly checked with the chef and the only vegetarian + gluten free option they came back with was to order the seared ahi tuna without the ahi tuna (no joke) – which meant that I had a dinner of rice and vegetables. It was delicious as far as rice and stir fried veggies go, but I was expecting more supportive service, a bit of culinary creativity…. and understanding that a vegetarian entree still needs a protein.

This was another great experience. Great found, ambience and service. Will go back!! The Rittenhouse is a must eat at renovated mansion. Get reservations well ahead if time. They are that good!

We had our first dinner inside a restaurant since COVID hit. So good! Excellent service! Great safety practices. We had mussels, roast duck and a seafood fettuccini.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Rittenhouse. The whitefish special was delicious as were the appetizers and dessert. Marie is a delightful server and the atmosphere is elegant. We would love to dine there again!

Marie gave us wonderful service and we had great omelettes for breakfast with a fresh made white chocolate raspberry muffin from the bakery. Beautiful historical building that we will stay in next time in Bayfield!

Beautiful Victorian style building, service was top notch. The weekly bruschetta with caramelized onion, fig jam, and blue cheese was delicious as the sweet and savory was perfectly balanced. Seafood risotto special was perfect with a great variety of seafood. Lake Superior white fish with steak fries and homemade tartar sauce was excellent. Desserts of creme brulee and peach upside down cake topped off our meals perfectly. I highly recommend this restaurant. The setting, service, and food are all well worth the price.

Zero stars.

Let’s start from the moment we walked into the restaurant, the atmosphere was extremely uncomfortable. The place was oddly quiet and it seemed like no one was enjoying themselves. So many couples weren’t talking to each other or even smiling. Our server was very sweet though. She was very attentive and kind. Probably the only good thing about our dinner that night.

We ordered their specialty cocktails, the bourbon one was great, however the other one tasted like a cheap drink I’ve had in college. Our French onion soup was extremely salty, nearly ruining the flavor. My prime rib was the worst steak I’ve ever had. I ordered it medium and it came to me only with a hint of pink. There was no flavor to it AT ALL and the entire thing was difficult to chew. I ate what I could because I was hungry. I can’t believe they’d serve that for that price. The chef has to know that this was not a quality piece of meat.

My husband’s NY strip was decent though. Thankfully he shared a few bites of that with me.

The worst part… we wanted to have some Riesling with our dinner. The server opened it all fancy and such, only to take a sip and realize this was nothing like the Riesling were normally enjoy. It was tart and sour. It wasn’t very sweet like we’d expected with a Riesling at all. We googled the cost of this bottle and realized it could be purchased for $7.97! The restaurant charged us $38 for this!!!!

Needless to say, we didn’t finish our meal, our cocktails or the full bottle of wine we were forced to purchase because just a glass wasn’t an option. We decided that since everything we ordered was a disappointment, we’d pass on dessert which is usually our favorite part of going out to eat.

One and done for us…

We had wonderful breakfast, best pancakes we’ve ever had.

Having said that, the service was marginal. We had to wait a very long time for our food to come out. Tables sat after us were served, ate, paid their bills and left before we even got our food. After the long wait, the waitress came out and said they had overcooked my steak so they had to start over. I give them credit of remaking it rather than serving it. However, we had to wait an additional 40 min. for the new steak to be finished and our meal to be served. Our redo on the steak should’ve been priority and I know it doesn’t take that long to cook. The waitress made a big deal that she would give us half off on the cocktail I was drinking. Hmmm, as long as we waited the entree should have been free (we have family in the business and that would’ve been the norm). The next morning at breakfast the waitress made a joke about breakfast not taking as long as our evening meal, but did remind us we got half off ONE of the cocktails. Great food, poor customer service.
